Well, it appears the love triangle in The Handmaid’s Tale could be continuing well into season 5 of the show. When the fourth season of the Hulu series concluded, it became clear to viewers that June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss) was in love with Nick Blaine (Max Minghella), and Moss echoed that sentiment in interviews following the season’s end.

In a new interview with Bevy Smith for SiriusXM’s Bevelations on Radio Andy, Moss changed her tune and shared that she does not know if June could actually make a choice between Nick and Luke Bankole (O-T Fagbenle).

What Elisabeth Moss thinks about the love triangle in season 5 of ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’

The fifth season of The Handmaid’s Tale is currently filming, and a release date for the upcoming season has not been announced yet.

In an interview on Bevelations, Moss discussed June’s feelings for Nick and Luke in season 5 of The Handmaid’s Tale.

“But I actually truly believe in my heart that, I don’t think June can answer that question. That’s the problem. I don’t know if she knows what she wants. And I don’t know if she does love them both,” Moss admitted.

She continued, “We get into a very complicated area here, but I do think that there are things that she loves about them both. And they do, they fulfill different things for her.”

When Smith shared that she is Team Nick on Bevelations, Moss replied, “I love that you said that.”

Moss then seemed to agree that June and Nick’s “connection” on The Handmaid’s Tale could be stronger than June and Luke’s relationship.

“There’s a connection there that I think it’s very difficult for her to have with anyone else, right?” Moss said on Bevelations.

Elisabeth Moss previously said June ‘wants to be with Nick’

In the season 4 finale of The Handmaid’s Tale, June makes a bold choice and murders Commander Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) with other former Handmaids.

Nick helped June orchestrate Fred’s murder, while Luke spent most of the episode encouraging June to move on from her past in Gilead.

The season ended with June saying goodbye to her and Nick’s young daughter Nichole while covered in Fred’s blood. Luke found June in the nursery and appeared taken aback at what June did.

Following the season finale, Moss was interviewed by ELLE. In the interview, Moss made it clear that June is in love with Nick, her Gilead lover, over Luke, her husband.

“Look, it’s kind of obvious. She wants to be with Nick. She’s in love with Nick. It doesn’t mean I don’t think Luke is an amazing guy,” Moss told ELLE.

What Elisabeth Moss’ new interview means about season 5 of ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’

At the end of season 4 of The Handmaid’s Tale, it seemed June had emotionally made it clear that her heart belongs with Nick. She also seemingly chose a path of rebellion that Luke could not approve of, severing their already strained relationship.

Moss’ messaging in post-season interviews in 2021 also supported this interpretation of events. Because of this, it appeared like the question of who June is in love with was closed, allowing the show to focus on other things in its fifth season.

With Moss’ new interview on Bevelations, June’s intentions and feelings are once again vague, keeping the angst of the love triangle in season 5 of The Handmaid’s Tale.
