The singer Halsey has a passionate following, and the celebrity has quickly built a career in music to be proud of. But along the way, she’s also experienced personal tragedies.

During her first tour, her skyrocketing career and a very private loss came together in one heartbreaking event.

Halsey’s rise to fame

According to Rolling Stone, Halsey was originally named Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, and when she was 19, she had no idea what she wanted to do with her life. She had dropped out of community college and been kicked out of her parents’ home as a result, and her life was pretty chaotic.

Although she had musical talent and knew how to play eight different instruments, she only got into music as a way to draw attention to her poetry. One night, she uploaded a song she’d recorded to SoundCloud, and the response was amazing. Within a few hours, she was contacted by five different record labels.

Her life literally changed overnight, and she went from a college dropout who was sleeping on friends’ couches to an up-and-coming pop star. She rearranged the letters of her first name to come up with the name Halsey, and she was on her way. Within a year, in 2015, she was on tour and about to release her first album. But although everything seemed to be falling into place for her, during that tour, she went through a terrible experience.

Her ‘angriest performance’

Glamour reports that it was while she was on tour that Halsey found out that she was pregnant. The pregnancy was unexpected, and she didn’t know how to react at first. She worried that having a baby could derail her new music career and alienate her fans.

Sadly, just hours before she was scheduled to perform, Halsey suffered a miscarriage. When she discovered that she was bleeding, she had to decide what to do about the concert. Ultimately, because of all the attention the show was drawing, Halsey decided to go ahead and perform. She took two Percocet, put on an adult diaper to contain the bleeding, and went onstage.

“It’s the angriest performance that I’ve ever done in my life,” she said. “That was the moment of my life where I thought to myself, ‘I don’t feel like a f–king human being anymore.’ This thing, this music, Halsey, whatever it is that I’m doing, took precedence and priority over every decision that I made regarding this entire situation from the moment I found out until the moment it went wrong. I walked offstage and went into the parking lot and just started throwing up.”

Struggles and good news

In the years since her loss, Halsey has gone on to have more miscarriages and health problems, even as her career soared. According to NJ, she’s made it known that she’s had a total of three miscarriages. She also suffers from endometriosis, which can severely impact a woman’s health and make it very difficult to have a baby. Before having surgery to address her endometriosis, she had some of her eggs frozen in hopes of someday conceiving.

With all of this painful history, her recent news is even sweeter. In January, Halsey posted some pictures of herself on Instagram. In the photos, she was wearing a crocheted rainbow bikini and showing off her pregnant belly. She announced that she’s expecting a baby with her boyfriend, Alev Aydin. The bombshell was one of the five secrets she’s promised to reveal in 2021.

Halsey has been through a lot to get to her happy news today. Fans are delighted for her, and they hope the darkest days are behind her.
