Dr. Jan Pol of The Incredible Dr. Pol clients range from those with small house pets such as cats, dogs, rabbits, and ferrets to the working farmers in the Michigan community the veterinarian’s clinic serves.

The incredible vet took time out this week to pay tribute to farm animals on Farm Animals Day and to the hardworking farmers across our country, whose contributions we appreciate even more in recent days for bringing food to our tables.

Dr. Pol was raised on a farm

Dr. Pol, from a young age, has been looking after animals’ needs, as his son, Charles, revealed to National Geographic.

“My dad, Jan Pol, was born in the Netherlands and grew up on a farm. Initially, he wanted to be a farmer. But there isn’t much farmland left in the Netherlands, so it’s nearly impossible to do. When he was nine years old, his brother called the local vet to help them deliver a litter of piglets. My dad helped the vet, and from that moment on, he knew what he wanted to do.”

The animal doctor was put in charge as a boy of many of the animals his father had – cows, chickens, goats.

Dr. Pol’s strong support of farmers

Because of his upbringing so close to animals and the earth, surrounded by much of the same large animals that he treats today, Dr. Pol is aware that the life of farmers is not an easy one. There is no paid time off because of a national holiday or bad weather. Farmers work day in, day out, no matter what.

As Dr. Pol says on his website, “Some of the hardest working most dedicated people I’ve ever met are farmers. They raise and grow the food that feeds our families without asking for much in return. Holy cow, they really are the backbone of this country!”

The veterinarian celebrated Farm Animals Day this week

One of Dr. Pol’s staff veterinarians, Dr. Nicole, posted this week on Twitter, “Happy National Farm Animals Day! #farmanimals #nationalfarmanimalsday #veterinarian #vetmed #leftdisplacedabomasum #Roll&stitch #DrPol #DrNicole”

It’s clear the vets and staff at Pol Veterinary Clinic aren’t the only ones feeling the love for farm animals and their caregivers.

One tweeter said, “Have a #National Farm ANIMALS Day to YOU and enjoy from you day DR.Nicole Arcy,” while another shared the sentiment saying, “hey hold on, I thought it was every National Farm Animals Day have just Animals Day,” and finally another fan said, “So happy to see guys hard at work!!”

According to National Day Calendar website, “Each year on April 10th, National Farm Animals Day focuses attention on the humane care of farm animals. The day also aims to find homes for abandoned and abused farm animals.”

The website offers ideas for everyone of all ages to appreciate farm animals and what they contribute to our daily lives.

“Learn more about farm production,” the website states. “Discover how farmers care for farm animals and where our food comes from. Visit a farm and find out about the animals that live there. What kinds of food do they eat? Where do they sleep? Learn the difference between raising farm animals, abuse, and neglect.”
