Is ‘The Incredible Dr. Pol’ on Netflix?

Starting its 19th season soon on Nat Geo Wild, The Incredible Dr. Pol has been one of the network’s biggest hits since it began in 2011.

Here’s what we know about the reality show’s availability on Netflix and when the new season will debut.

The reality show is streaming on Disney+, but not on Netflix

While The Incredible Dr. Pol may not be on Netflix, you can watch every season of the show on Disney+, including the current 18th season, as the show’s executive producer — and Dr. Pol’s son — Charles Pol reported on Facebook Live recently.

“For everybody who has Disney+ but not Nat Geo, the [most recent] season of The Incredible Dr. Pol will make its way to Disney+ in the U.S. on June 11th. So, season 18, June 11th, Disney+,” Charles announced.

The 18th season found the veterinarian and his clinic’s staff taking on the immense challenge of the global pandemic. And as usual, the Pol Veterinary Clinic staff get the job done, no matter the situation. Episodes in season 18 include: “Love Wool Find a Way,” “Shiver Me Puppers,” and “Lights, Camel, Action,” featuring a camel brought in for treatment by Dr. Pol.

Dr. Pol starts a new season July 10th on Nat Geo Wild

The Incredible Dr. Pol‘s episodes are available for streaming on Disney+, and it also still airs on its original network Nat Geo Wild. In fact, its 19th season begins on July 10th on the network at 9:00PM EST.

The veterinarian explained in his memoir Never Turn Your Back on an Angus Cow that the show almost never happened. Spearheaded by his son Charles, the show was shopped around to various networks, gathering little interest.

“Charles and [the show’s co-executive producer] Jon began taking this sizzle reel around to the different cable networks trying to sell the show,” he wrote. “As I’d predicted, there wasn’t a lot of interest in a show about a 70-year-old vet kissing horses and getting very familiar with cows. They got turned down by a lot of places.”

Dr. Pol revealed what could’ve been the ultimate kiss-of-death insult spoken by a network head: “One cable network executive explained to them, ‘We want people to stay tuned to our programming. [Dr. Pol] is a channel changer.’ Other networks were nicer, telling them nobody in the world would be interested in this show. Finally they went to a new channel, Nat Geo Wild, which was going to be all about animals. ‘He’s kind of a funky guy,’ they said. ‘And he kisses horses. Maybe we should give it a try.'”

Dr. Pol’s incredible milestone

The veteran veterinarian is marking his 50th anniversary this year as a professional in the industry.

Nothing could have prepared him, he’s said, for the experience of becoming a television personality and minor celebrity in his 70s. He wrote in his memoir that he and his wife Diane “are both very happy that this happened to us later in life. It’s a lot of fun and it’s certainly ego boosting when people tell me how much they enjoy watching me do my job, but by now we’re very well grounded.

“Years ago we learned what things make a difference in our lives, and those things aren’t going to change at all.”

‘The Incredible Dr. Pol’s 19th season premieres July 10th at 9:00PM EST on Nat Geo Wild.
