1999’s The Matrix instantly entered pop culture for its dialogue, high-concept sci-fi, and intense action sequences. The press regularly asks The Matrix Resurrections stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss whether they would take the red or blue pill if given the opportunity. Two social media accounts allow the fans to choose for themselves and have catered posts depending on their choice.

‘The Matrix Resurrections’ red vs. blue pill

In The Matrix, Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) offers Neo (Reeves) a red and a blue pill. He tells him, “You take the blue pill… the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill… you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.”

The pill discussion is existential in nature. The blue pill provides a forged reality of the Matrix, but the red pill allows its user to enter the real world. There’s no going back, so the choice must be final. Neo ultimately decides to take the red pill over the blue pill. As a result, Neo’s destiny is set through to The Matrix Resurrections.

The Red Pill and The Blue Pill Instagram pages ask you to pick a side

The Red Pill and The Blue Pill Instagram accounts ask fans the fateful question that Morpheus asks Neo leading up to The Matrix Resurrection‘s release date. The pages are private, so you need to request to see the content. However, the gimmick is that fans are committing to taking one pill or the other by requesting to follow.

The Red Pill’s page description reads, “See what’s real,” while The Blue Pill’s page reads, “Everything is fine.”

The Red Pill has over 11,700 followers, while The Blue Pill has over 7,800 followers. The Matrix Resurrections fans are unsurprisingly choosing to take the red over the blue pill by a large margin.

The two Instagram pages are the antithesis of one another. One begs you to “look at the patterns,” while the other tells you to, “feel the sun on your skin.” The Red Pill shows its user the glitches in the Matrix and wants you to wake up. Meanwhile, The Blue Pill calms its user and reassures them of their current state.

The Red Pill and The Blue Pill users are getting into The Matrix Resurrections and roleplaying as if they’re a part of its universe.

One Red Pill Instagram user wrote, “Time to wake up.”

One Blue Pill Instagram user wrote, “Do you think that’s sun you feel on your skin?”
