NCIS didn’t introduce the spinoff NCIS: Hawai’i via a backdoor pilot before it premiered last fall. But there is definitely a connection between the two series. And fans will get a glimpse during the spinoff’s first season. A major NCIS crossover event is officially on the CBS primetime schedule — here’s everything we know so far.

‘NCIS’ agents Nick Torres and Jessica Knight are heading to Hawai’i

The news of the special crossover event broke at the beginning of 2022, and it was shared by stars of both NCIS and NCIS: Hawai’i on social media.

In the clip, Wilmer Valderrama and Katrina Law revealed that their characters — Special Agents Nick Torres and Jessica Knight — would be heading to Hawai’i to work a case.

“It’s going to be good being back on the island solving crimes,” Law — who starred as Quinn Liu on Hawai’i Five-0 — told the camera.

Vanessa Lachey, who stars as Hawai’i’s team leader Jane Tennant, revealed at the end of the video that the crossover event was scheduled for Monday, March 28.

The ‘NCIS’ crossover episode is titled ‘Starting Over/T’NT’

The special crossover will serve as Season 19, Episode 17 for NCIS, and Season 1, Episode 18 for NCIS: Hawai’i. The first hour is titled “Starting Over,” and the second hour has the name “T’NT.”

Photos from the episode show that Torres and Knight will be working with the entire Hawai’i team. Including Lachey’s Tennant, Jason Antoon’s Ernie Malik, Noah Mills’ Jesse Boone, and Alex Tarrant’s Kai Holman.

Diona Reasonover (Kasie Hines) and Gary Cole (Alden Parker) from NCIS are listed as guest stars. But they will appear via videolink. The story will follow Torres and Knight when they head to Hawai’i after finding out that a key witness in an old explosion case is there and holding crucial evidence.

The franchise has a long history of crossovers

With NCIS producing three different spinoffs during its 19 season run — Los Angeles, New Orleans, and Hawai’i —  there’s been a lot of opportunities for crossovers. And CBS has taken full advantage.

The first crossover in the NCIS universe was in 2009 in the episodes “Legend: Part 1 and Part 2.” Which introduced NCIS: Los Angeles. Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and his team helped introduce NCIS: New Orleans with the two-part crossover episode “Crescent City” in 2014.

In 2016 and 2017, NCIS and New Orleans had two different two-part crossovers. NCIS tapped into its parent series JAG when David James Elliott and Catherine Bell reprised their roles of Captain Harmon Rabb and Lieutenant Colonel Sarah “Mac” Mackenzie on Los Angeles in 2019 and 2020.

Several NCIS cast members guest starred over the years on Los Angeles and New Orleans. Including Michael Weatherly’s Tony DiNozzo, Pauley Perrette’s Abby Scuito, and Rocky Carroll’s Leon Vance.

NCIS has also had crossovers with other CBS dramas, like Hawai’i Five-0. Which technically makes Law’s two characters (Jessica Knight and Quinn Lui) part of the same universe.

The NCIS and NCIS: Hawai’i crossover event airs Monday, March 28 on CBS.
