‘The Office’: Deleted Scene Reveals Kevin Could Be the Father of Jan’s Baby
Could Kevin Malone be the father of Jan Levinson’s baby on The Office? One deleted scene from the show had Kevin believing Jan might have bought his sperm at the sperm bank. Jan wasn’t quite convinced, however.
‘The Office’ employees threw a baby shower for Jan
During the June 9 episode of the Office Ladies podcast, hosts Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey discussed the season 5 episode “Baby Shower,” which revolves around Jan coming to the office for a baby shower. She’s already had the baby, however.
Kinsey revealed that, in a deleted scene, Kevin tells Jan he could potentially be the baby’s father since he has donated to the sperm bank she used.
“There are a lot of scenes in this conference room baby shower that didn’t make it,” Kinsey explained. “I’m going to share a few. The first one is one of the funniest things I have had to witness and we could not get through it.”
“Kevin thinks he might be the sperm donor and the look on Jan’s face is amazing,” she added.
They played the deleted scene during the podcast:
Kevin: Hey, Jan, you went to a sperm bank?
Jan: Yes, I did.
Kevin: I donated sperm.
Jan: Oh.
Kevin: Ooh, maybe I’m the father.
Jan: Well, this is a highly exclusive establishment.

Jan: Well, I paid for an ideal specimen.
Oscar: Are you saying Kevin is not an ideal specimen?
Jan: This is a wonderful shower, everyone. Thank you.
Kevin: I might have done it with Jan.
Jan: It’s not Kevin.
According to Kinsey, the scene was so hilarious, it was challenging to film without breaking. “We could not get through it,” she explained. “Whenever Brian said, ‘You mean the one by IHOP?’ Just every single time, because Melora’s reaction as Jan was so good. And then, you know, she says she paid for premium sperm, which we learned might have been Andy Roddick’s.”
The identity of the father of Jan’s baby was revealed (sort of)
The identity of the father of Jan’s baby was never revealed on the air or even in a deleted scene, but during the May 5 Office Ladies podcast, Fischer and Kinsey discussedThe Office “Goodbye, Toby” episode and said they knew who Jan’s baby daddy was.
Kinsey had the draft script for the episode and told listeners that the script revealed the mystery sperm donor.
“In the script — and it didn’t make it to the deleted scenes — Jan reveals whose sperm she bought,” Kinsey shared. “Jan says, ‘You have to pay top dollar, but it’s worth it. Now, here’s the best part. I got Andy Roddick’s sperm.’”
“And Jan looks to Michael like she’s expecting him to be very impressed,” she continued. “And Michael says, ‘The tennis player?’ And Jan says, ‘Well, it’s a little more than that. He’s the sixth-ranked player in the world and he’s won four grand slams.’”
“And Michael says, ‘That’s a lot of grand slams, I guess.’ And Jan says, ‘And he’s a humanitarian, something with orphans,’” the actor added. “And Michael is quiet and Jan goes, ‘Michael?’ And Michael says, ‘Can I just sit here for a minute without more things coming into my head?’”
