‘The Office’: John Krasinski Called This Scene With Steve Carell and Rainn Wilson ‘1 of the Most Fun Moments’

There were a lot of laughs when the cast filmed The Office but John Krasinski named one standout moment he said was “one of the most fun” to shoot. It’s not an easy task picking a favorite moment from filming nine seasons of the hit show, but Krasinski said this scene with Steve Carell and Rainn Wilson was “the best.”

John Krasinski said this scene was ‘one of the most fun moments’

During a 2006 Q&A session with Give Me My Remote, Krasinski was asked to name the scene that was his favorite to shoot. It was still the early days of the show back then so his opinion might have changed but, at the time, he had a clear winner.

“Dear God, shooting the scene in the van with Steve and Rainn will go down in history as one of the most fun moments I’ve ever been a part of. It was the BEST,” he explained.

In the season 2 episode “The Injury,” Michael Scott burns his foot on a George Foreman Grill and Dwight, in an effort to drive quickly to go help Michael, crashes his car into a pole and suffers a concussion. Jim and Michael take Dwight to the hospital, using Meredith’s minivan to get him there.

The minivan provided a funny moment

The trio piles into the van and there’s a fair amount of squabbling between Michael and Dwight, prompting Jim to pull out a squirt bottle and give them each a spray. It turns out, that was particularly fun for Krasinski.

During a March 2020 Office Ladies podcast episode, hosts Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey discussed “The Injury” and said there were a lot of fan questions about the guys took Meredith’s van.

“Why couldn’t they go in Jim’s car?,” Kinsey wondered. “I get why Michael can’t drive. I get that Dwight can’t drive. But Jim. Why didn’t Jim say, ‘Merideth, that’s fine, I don’t want to ride in your gross van. I’ll take my car?’”

Fischer broke down the reason for using the van. “Here are his choices. Go in Meredith’s van or put Dwight and Michael in his car,” she explained. “Dwight has already thrown up. I mean, I don’t know, would you put them in your car?”

Kinsey did think there was a comedic element in the mix too. “Yes, I would rather drive my car — an injured person in my car, where I know my car,” she said. “Meredith’s van is a hot mess, but because they took Meredith’s van, they had that great funny scene of Dwight trying to drink the rum in the backseat.”

Fischer said that getting through the scene was challenging for Krasinski. “John has said in interviews that that was one of the hardest times he’s ever laughed on the show, was filming those Meredith van scenes,” she noted.

Kinsey added, “Well, I think these three guys, whenever they get in a car together, they lose it.”

She also said she thought Krasinksi broke character during the scene. “I think that was John. It wasn’t Jim,” Kinsey explained. “That was John with that spray bottle.”

Fischer agreed, adding, “Oh, he had to have too much fun with that.”
