During the show’s run, Mindy Kaling played the bubbly customer service representative, Kelly Kapoor. While starring in the show, Kaling served as a writer, executive producer, and director. Since the show ended, Kaling has been pretty active in Hollywood. The actor currently produces and stars in the FOX comedy series The Mindy Project. Also, she is the creator, and executive producer of the Netflix comedy-drama series Never Have I Ever.

In an interview with StyleCaster, The Office alum talked about the show’s popularity in this day and age. “I’m surprised and delighted at how every time I go through the airport, how many 15-year-olds come up to me like, ‘Kelly! Kelly!’” she explained. “It’s been great that the show has had this lasting power. People who were basically born when the show premiered, they’re still into it now.”

When asked about the reboot, Kaling said she would join the project if creator Greg Daniels were onboard. The former Saturday Night Live writer created the American version, based on the British television series. “If Greg Daniels were in charge of it, I would be excited and supportive and try to help in any way I could,” Kaling said. “It had to be the right person steering the ship, but if it were Greg, who was the mastermind of the American Office, it would be a great show.”

Comedian B.J. Novak played Ryan Howard on The Office for nine seasons. Howard was a salesman and former receptionist at the Dunder Mifflin. Also, he had an on-and-off relationship with Kelly.

Although Novak would be open to The Office reboot, he doesn’t share the same sentiment as Kaling. In fact, Novak doesn’t want the old characters to return for the revival. In an interview with USA Today, the actor revealed he wants a new generation of office workers in the reboot. I’d want to give it a few more years so a new generation could do it,” he explained.

Then, Novak shared his ideas for the potential reboot. “If I were part of the team, I would say, ‘Let’s wait until the kids who grew up on The Office could really make their version of The Office, as opposed to rustling the old crew back together for one last (go-round). None of us had lived for eight years straight (making it), so I think you need people who will live and die to make it great. You can’t make a show like that casually.”

Greg Daniels shares his thoughts on ‘The Office’ reboot

Although The Office creator Greg Daniels is open to a potential reboot, it might not be in the cards for him. In January 2021, Daniels sat down with Collider and discussed The Office reboot. When asked about the project, he responded: “No, but it’s not impossible. It’s not impossible for sure. I would want to be involved, and I’ve got two other shows I’m working on right now.”

At the moment, Daniels is currently working on the Amazon sci-fi comedy Upload and his Netflix comedy Space Force, starring Steve Carell. Both shows were renewed for a second season, So, it seems Daniels is dedicating his time to both shows.

All nine seasons of The Office are streaming now on Peacock.
