The Office is a comedy. As such, many fans wonder how difficult it was for the cast to keep it together behind the scenes. It’s no secret many of the actors broke character in The Office‘s more hilarious scenes, but one actor takes the cake in terms of laughing the most on set.

Kate Flannery as Meredith Palmer, John Krasinski as Jim Halpert, Steve Carell as Michael Scott, Amy Ryan as Holly Flax, Angela Kinsey as Angela Martin, Creed Bratton as Creed Bratton, Rainn Wilson as Dwight Schrute, Ed Helms as Andy Bernard, Phyllis Smith as Phyllis Lapin, Brian Baumgartner as Kevin Malone, Oscar Nunez as Oscar Martinez, Leslie David Baker as Stanley Hudson, Mindy Kaling as Kelly Kapoor from 'The Office'

The set of ‘The Office’ was a second home for the cast and crew

Many fans have caught on to the familial ties The Office cast shares. “It looked like a home because it was for a while,” Office star Brian Baumgartner said during an episode of The Office Deep Dive podcast.

“That’s one of the things that made it unique. Because of the way [the show] was shot, we were all there so much.”

Baumgartner mentioned how typically with shows, the star might be on set more than the background cast. But with The Office, all of the cast members were on set together without a hierarchy. “That’s one of the things that gave us the truly special bond that we had,” Baumgartner added.

Mindy Kaling laughed the most playing Kelly Kapoor on ‘The Office’

During a celebration of The Office‘s “Sweet 16,” Baumgartner answered fan-submitted questions on his latest podcast. One fan wanted to know who laughed the most on set, and all Baumgartner could say was: “Mindy Kaling — Mindy Kaling. I think she would own up to that.”

Ironically, he’s not the only Office star who voted Kaling as “most likely to break in a scene.” Kaling, who doubled as a writer when she wasn’t playing Kelly Kapoor, especially struggled not to laugh while filming the season 3 episode “Initiation.”

“I make physical contact, then she says that Dwight is weird, and then I say he’s not,” Angela Kinsey recalled in an episode of the Office Ladies podcast. When Kelly called Dwight (Rainn Wilson) a “freak,” Angela shouted, “You’re a freak!” and stormed off. Shooting that scene was difficult because every time Kinsey made eye contact with Kaling, she would burst out laughing.

“Mindy was the worst,” co-star Jenna Fischer elaborated. “I have so many stories coming up of doing scenes with Mindy where you would say a regular line and she would start laughing.”

Oscar Nuñez laughed the least behind the scenes of ‘The Office’

Baumgartner did fans a service and took the question one step further. “The person who was known as the one who laughed the least?” he added to his answer.

Oscar Nuñez — He has the greatest deadpan, and it is very difficult to break him,” Baumgartner said of his co-star. The actor, who played Oscar Martinez in The Office, was good about not cracking in scenes, except for maybe one.

“Maybe in the ‘Gay Witch Hunt’ [episode,] Steve [Carell] finally got him,” Baumgartner said. In the hilarious season 3 episode, Oscar was outed to the entire office. Naturally, Michael Scott wanted to make Oscar feel accepted, and there was only one way to do that — by kissing him in front of everyone.

Carell improvised that famous kiss scene in “Gay Witch Hunt.” Not only is it one of the most memorable scenes for fans, but now it will be known as the scene that finally broke Nuñez.
