The 2020 Grammys was probably one of the best shows the awards ceremony has put on in a while, with huge kudos to host Alicia Keyes. Mere hours after learning the news that Kobe Bryant had been killed in a helicopter accident, Keyes presided over the event with incredible grace, consoling a room filled with celebrities and music makers still in shock over the NBA legend’s passing.

One couple that was clearly absent was Jennifer Lopez and fiancé Alex Rodriguez.

Find out what might have kept the A-list couple away from the biggest music awards ceremony of the year.

Alex Rodriguez has been by her side through every awards show

This power couple has been striking a gorgeous pose at the Screen Actors Guild Award ceremony and at the Golden Globes, both earlier this month. Although Lopez didn’t win the trophy from either awards show for her supporting role in Hustlers, her fiancé most definitely wins the award for best consoling boyfriend!

The former Yankee wrote an open letter to Lopez on an Instagram post saying, “Jen, it doesn’t take a trophy, medal, or plaque to identify a true champion. To millions of young women who have watched you and have been inspired and empowered to do amazing things in their lives, you are a champion. For countless musicians, dancers, actresses, and performers who have seen and emulate your passion, drive and work ethic to find their own success, you are a champion.”

“To your children, your family, your coaches, your staff, and your extended family, you are a champion. To everyone whose lives you enrich daily, you are a champion. And don’t you ever forget it.”

Lopez wasn’t nominated for a Grammy

It could also be the pair skipped the ceremony because Lopez wasn’t up for an award, so why bother getting all glammed up and ready if there’s no reason to. Besides, the couple went last year. As mentioned, the two have been busy this month attending the other two awards shows where the actress was nominated. But if there isn’t the possibility of a trophy, it’s understandable that they decided to sit the Grammys out.

Lopez showed her grace in the disappointment of not receiving a SAG this month when she posted on Instagram, “What a night! Thanks to my fellow actors and the [SAG Awards] for my Best Supporting Actress nomination for Hustlers! Thank you to my Alex and my incredible team for supporting me tonight!”

The most likely reason they were Grammy no-shows: it’s a week before her Super Bowl show

With just a week before the 50-year-old’s highly anticipated Pepsi Super Bowl LIV halftime show appearance with Shakira next Sunday, the singer likely decided to get some much-needed rest and save her energy for that big event.

When the superstar was asked by Jay-Z to headline the halftime show with Shakira, she explained at the time to CBS This Morning that it was like winning an Academy Award.

“It’s like winning the Oscar. It’s the biggest show that there is. It has the biggest audience. You get to have, like, this big production. . . You know, everything’s, like, budget conscious. . . And I think it’s just like a fantasy for all musical artists to be able to play the Super Bowl and have like that 12 minutes of an amazing show . . . There’s just something exhilarating about it.”
