Plummer was known in Hollywood for his bad behavior. According to one other acting elite, Plummer had a “famously bad temper” that everyone in the business was well-aware of. And Plummer himself has admitted to hating some of his own projects, particularly The Sound of Music. He thought the musical was far too sweet, and he even referred to it as “The Sound of Mucus.”

As for Plummer and Andrews’ relationship, it seemed to have started off on a rough note. Plummer thought Andrews was just as sweet as the film, which rubbed him the wrong way. He even noted being around her was like “being hit over the head with a big Valentine’s Day card, every day.”

The two co-stars still maintained a friendship that spanned decades, though. And Andrews supplied NBC with a sweet statement after learning of Plummer’s death in February 2021. “The world has lost a consummate actor today and I have lost a cherished friend,” she said, according to Today. “I treasure the memories of our work together and all the humor and fun we shared through the years. My heart and condolences go out to his lovely wife Elaine, and his daughter Amanda.”

Plummer died with a net worth of $20 million. And that’s thanks to his incredible acting legacy. Plummer was originally trained as a stage actor and later made his film debut with 1958’s Stage Struck, Biography notes. And it was his role in The Sound of Music that later launched him to serious fame.

As for Plummer’s other acting credits, he won Tony Awards for Cyrano (1973) and Barrymore (1997), and he won an Oscar for Beginners (2010).

While Plummer’s biggest and most well-known success is likely The Sound of Music, his distaste for the content of the musical is well known. And he even referenced this in his 2008 memoir, In Spite of Myself. He notes he had been “a pampered, arrogant young bastard, spoiled by too many great theatre roles” and “still harbored the old-fashioned stage actor’s snobbism toward moviemaking.”

Even so, Plummer amassed a huge fortune during his long life. He died with a net worth of $20 million.

While Plummer was able to have a successful career on and off the big screen, what about Andrews? It seems she was also able to make it work in Hollywood. She was a notable name prior to being part of The Sound of Music cast, and she amassed an even bigger fortune than Plummer. Celebrity Net Worth notes she’s worth $30 million — $10 million more than Plummer.

It seems Andrews started attaining wealth quite young. She was a child actor, singer, and dancer, and first took part in stage productions. Then, she cemented herself as a star once she attained the leading role in Mary Poppins (1964).

While Andrews had a ton of early success, her later years weren’t as lucrative. She had a few box office failures and ventured into the world of television later. But she was able to come back strong in The Princess Diaries in 2001.
