The time of The Witcher Season 2 is almost upon us. Netflix released a new scene involving Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) and Tissaia (MyAnna Buring) in The Witcher Season 2. Judging by Yennefer’s clothing, the scene likely took place after the Battle of Sodden. Yennefer is ready to admit something to Tissaia before being cut off and congratulated for her efforts during the battle. But what was Yennefer going to admit, and does Tissaia’s word choice hint at something more?

What happened during the Battle of Sodden in ‘The Witcher’?

It is still unclear if the second season of the Netflix series will occur after the season 1 finale events. During The Witcher Episode 8, Yennefer, Tissaia, and the other mages go to Sodden to stop Nilgaard from advancing. The mages are losing as the battle goes on, and Tissaia tells Yennefer to let go of her chaos.

Yennefer uses fire magic to burn the forest infested with Nilfgaard soldiers to save the people closest to her. The mages win for now. In the aftermath, Yennefer is nowhere to be found. The new Netflix clip of The Witcher Season 2 shows Yennefer is alive but distraught over something.

Tissaia’s word choice of ‘sacrifice’ could hint at something about Yennefer

In the clip involving Yennefer and Tissaia, Yennefer is ready to tell her something important. By her tone of voice and look in her eyes, she is troubled by something. But Tissaia stops her and lets her know she is considered a hero to many people.

Tissaia tells Yennefer Vilgefortz (Mahesh Jadu) will carry the title of victory while she Yennefer lays low. But Tissaia has a knowing and almost hurt gaze when addressing Yennefer. She tells Yennefer it is time for her to be strong instead of weak.

One of the major hints to Tissaia knowing what Yennefer wanted to tell her is when she says “sacrifice.” She explains to Yennefer she was right to do what she had to at the Battle of Sodden. It is an interesting word choice when Tissaia says she will always be grateful for her “sacrifice.”

The frenemies share a hug, but Yennefer looks distant and broken. Could Tissaia be implying that using fire magic at Sodden caused Yennefer to lose something and does not want Yennefer to dwell on it?

The Battle of Sodden could have possibly given a small hint to what Yennefer’s hidden secret is in the Netflix clip. One fan on Reddit recalls the series explaining the list of banned magic. The fan quotes, “‘They’re using banned magic, demonology, necromancy, and fire magic.'”

The series vaguely explains fire magic is forbidden and a serious form of chaos magic. At Sodden, Fringilla (Mimi Ndiweni) orders another mage to conjure a fireball. The mage looks worried and sees the cloak of another mage on the forest floor. As the mage creates the fireball, her life rapidly leaves her body, resulting in her death.

The magnitude of Yennefer’s use of fire magic in the season finale could have proven fatal or had a horrible consequence. Seeing as Yennefer is alive and Tissaia said “sacrifice,” Yennefer’s magic might be in jeopardy.

The Witcher Season 2 will premiere on Netflix on Dec.17.
