Kristen Bell stars a suburban woman embroiled in a murder in ‘The Woman in the House Across the Street From the Girl in the Window’

Audiences might be inclined to believe The Woman in the House is a spoof on the Amy Adams movie The Woman in the Window. The Netflix show follows a similar idea but relies more heavily on comedy with different details regarding the murder.

A troubled Anna is dealing with many unfortunate circumstances in her life. She relies on bottles of wine and prescription medications to get through the day. When a widowed father named Neil (Tom Riley) and his daughter Emma (Samsara Yett) move across the street, she gets a spark of life.

One day, she witnesses a murder across the street. She alerts authorities, but they do not believe her. They claim the murder never occurred, and the supposed victim is alive. Anna spirals and questions what really happened. She gets involved in her own investigation.

In an interview with TODAY, Bell reveals she was the one who fought to keep the series’s long title. To many, The Woman in the House Across the Street From the Girl in the Window is a mouthful. Netflix originally wanted to shorten the title, but Bell explains, “I said, ‘No way’ because, here’s a little tip of the hat. This show is definitely, it’s a satirical psychological drama.”

Bell further explains murder mysteries involving women follow the same formula. The title is meant to poke fun at the genre. “So, we’re hoping that the title will tip you to the fact that we are making fun of the genre the entire time,” said Bell.

Ealy also enjoyed the title and told ABC Audio, “I mean you can’t say that without kind of smiling, right? You can’t say that without kind of questioning what am I getting myself into?” It will be hard for audiences to forget The Woman in the House Across the Street From the Girl in the Window.
