‘This Is Us’ has unpacked a lot of topics over six seasons

This Is Us changed storytelling on network television and unpacked a lot of tough topics.

The series’ key characters included Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia), his wife Rebecca (Mandy Moore), and their adult children Kevin (Justin Hartley), Randall (Sterling K. Brown), and Kate (Chrissy Metz).

Subsequently, some of the show’s supporting characters included Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson), Miguel (Jon Huertas), Madison (Caitlin Thompson), Toby (Chris Sullivan), and Nicky (Griffin Dunne).

A handful of the series’ key storylines have focused on important life issues.

These included infertility, living with a disability, alcoholism, family conflict, and racism.

Also tackled were mental health, body image, PTSD, LGBQT+ struggles, late-in-love romance, infidelity, elder care, and death.

However, what were some of the favorite storylines of the series actors, who brilliantly acted out these challenging character arcs?

‘This Is Us’ Cast Reveals Extraordinary Storylines They’re Most Proud of

Kevin (Justin Hartley) ran to be by his brother Randall’s (Sterling K. Brown) side during an anxiety attack in season 2.

In an interview with E! News, the cast of the NBC family drama spoke of the extraordinary storylines they’ve been most proud to feature throughout the six seasons of the series.

Ventimiglia said he was most proud of telling Jack’s story regarding his experiences with alcoholism and the character’s life in Vietnam. However, he was most proud of portraying a “guy who didn’t come from a good family wanting to have a good family.”

“The fertility struggles storyline with Kate and Toby a lot of people connected to,” Sullivan admitted. He also cited other storylines that provided an important “context to begin conversations.”

However, Metz cited the “racial injustice that Randall went through” and the call to action that fans realized from the topic.

“I loved Tess’ coming out,” claimed Watson. “A lot. I mean, a lot.”

Perhaps Hartley summed up the overall feel of the cast when he said, “I mean, who would have ever thought as an actor that you get an opportunity to be on a show like this, that impacts so many people’s lives that you will never meet? What an absolute treat.”
