As Phillip, This Is Us newcomer Chris Geere has quickly become an integral part of the Pearson family’s tapestry. Phillip’s marriage to Kate (Chrissy Metz) allowed for a happy exhale into the clan, who are dealing with the health decline of their matriarch, Rebecca (Mandy Moore). A time jump shows that Rebecca succumbs to health issues related to her cognitive issues. This scene has puzzled viewers since a teaser first debuted in season 3. However, Geere spilled the moment may not be as heartbreaking as initially believed, claiming “everyone” is in the last scene of the show’s sixth and final season.

Kate’s the designated caretaker of her mother after Rebecca’s husband Miguel

In an unforgettable moment during season 6, Kate was designated the caretaker of Rebecca if Miguel (Jon Huertas) was unable to do so.

The final Pearson family Thanksgiving ended with Rebecca gathering her children together to discuss the difficulties they may endure as her disease progresses.

“I need you all to hear my voice right now, your mother’s voice with all of her faculties. You will not make your lives smaller because of me,” she said.

“This thing that’s happening to me will not be the thing that holds you back,” Rebecca continued. “So, take risks. Make the big moves, even if they’re small moves. Forge ahead with your lives in any and every direction that moves you. I’m your mother, and I’m sick. And I’m asking you to be fearless. And if that seems like a tall order, well, guess what? It is, but the only acceptable response is a resounding, ‘Yes, ma’am.’”

Later, Rebecca and her daughter had a quiet moment. Kate asks her mom, “Why me?” Rebecca replies, “You are my daughter and my best friend. It was always you, Kate.”

In a flash-forward, fans learn that despite Kate not being visible in a scene around her mother’s deathbed, she is very much alive and ready to take care of Rebecca if needed.

Chris Geere admits ‘everyone’ is in ‘This Is Us’ last scene

In an interview for NBC Insider, Geere leaked a critical detail about the last episode of the series aptly titled “Us.”

“We just got our schedule for the end, and the last day will be everyone in the last scene,” the actor revealed.

“So, I think that will be quite an emotional day. I’ve taken on looking after Chrissy, as Phillip is looking after Kate. I can see that emotion is very present in all of them.”

Chris Geere teases what viewers can expect in upcoming episodes

“There is the obvious: the decline of Rebecca’s health,” Geere explained.

“There are also some wonderful family scenes in the future. I have a wonderful scene with Beth [Susan Kelechi Watson], and you wouldn’t imagine Phillip and Beth having a scene together. I loved it—and not only because Susan’s just a terrific actor, but she’s also amazing to watch.”

The actor claimed that episode 17 would have fans reaching for their tissues boxes more than any other time in the series history.

“I can say Episode 17 that the fans are just ‘going to go crazy,” Geere revealed.

This episode will air on May 17.

“It’s one of the sweetest, saddest episodes of TV I’ve ever done—so much so, people are genuinely crying their eyes out during various takes,” the actor continued.

“It’s somber, but there’s so much gratitude on set at the moment. Everyone’s aware of where we’re at in nearing the end. It’s just wonderful energy, and there are a lot of scenes with all of us together, which I think has been nice,” he concluded.

This Is Us airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
