After six years of living and loving This Is Us‘ Pearson clan, fans have developed a pretty good opinion of what they like and do not like about the NBC series. As the show comes to a close, some fans have deduced that there has been one character who has been the most “frustrating” in This Is Us‘ history. While other characters have given viewers pause, only one appeared to have fans in unanimous reaction: Randall Pearson.

‘This Is Us’ viewers blame Rebecca for this character’s issues

Rebecca Pearson (Mandy Moore) was in the unenviable position of being both a mother and father to her three teenage children on the heels of Jack Pearson’s (Milo Ventimiglia) untimely death.

Rebecca had to step up and assume the role of breadwinner, protector, and parent as her three children grieved.

While Rebecca tried her best to be all she could for her children, her many stumbles allowed a divide to grow within The Big Three that appeared almost irreparable.

However, one character stepped into a role for which they were not ready: Randall.

Rebecca allowed this dynamic shift within the Pearson family, causing fans to believe that while at heart a good person, this character was the most “frustrating” in series history.

Fans struggle to find a balance in their feelings for Randall Pearson

In a Reddit post titled “Most Frustrating Character,” fans appeared unanimous in their emotions that Randall (Sterling K. Brown) was the most frustrating character in This Is Us‘ history.

“When Randall looked down on Kate and Kevin (Chrissy Metz and Justin Hartley), I got riled up. I get so angry by his hero complex, Randall is amazing and funny, and I love him, but UGH! He’s probably the one character that most gets under my skin and frustrates me,” wrote one viewer.

“I get where it came from and how it developed. And Kevin and Kate weren’t as reliable in adolescence, and they are now, in my opinion. Rebecca played a part in enabling Randall to become the way he was,” deduced a second fan.

“Randall’s control issues can be frustrating. However, Rebecca put him in that role, especially after Jack died. He felt it was his job to be in charge and care for everyone,” penned a third Reddit user.

However, a fourth fan had a differing opinion of Randall’s character, particularly in “Family Meeting” when The Big Three came together to make adult decisions regarding their mother’s care.

“The relief Randall had when he realized Kate and Kevin were truly right there with him. I could feel that. Randall waited for them to step into their roles, particularly Kevin, and he was so happy they did,” said a fourth This Is Us fan.
