A recap of Jack and Rebecca’s first time hosting Thanksgiving in ‘This Is Us’ Season 6 Episode 7

Tonight’s episode of This Is Us took fans back to Jack and Rebecca’s first hosted Thanksgiving. The engaged couple had her parents, Dave and Janet, over, which was a recipe for disaster.

Rebecca made her mother’s sugar pie, but she didn’t know the secret ingredient. And once Dave and Janet arrived, Janet micromanaged Rebecca’s cooking. At dinner, Rebecca lost it when her mother suggested she go easy on the sweet potatoes. She unloaded all her feelings about her mother, and she stormed out of the room.

Janet told Jack that she and Dave were moving to Connecticut, and she was worried that Rebecca wouldn’t visit her. And Jack informed Rebecca that her parents were leaving. As a result, Rebecca made up with her mother in This Is Us Season 6 Episode 7.

What happened between Rebecca and Miguel in the ’90s?

This Is Us Season 6 has been leading to the moment Rebecca and Miguel developed feelings for one another, and it all came to a head in episode 7.

Rebecca, who now knows the secret ingredient, made the sugar pie with Kate. Randall and Beth arrived, and Kevin and Kate filled them in on how Sophie broke up with Kevin. Matt, Miguel, and Miguel’s girlfriend Marguerite came as well.

Following dinner, they all played Taboo. During one round, Rebecca and Miguel accidentally excluded Matt and Marguerite. And as Miguel was taking out the trash, Kevin drunkenly warned Miguel to stay away from his mother. He told him that Jack would turn over in his grave if they ever got together.

At the end of the night, Rebecca and Miguel came clean about their feelings. Miguel told her that he was moving to Houston because he got a job offer and it would be closer to his kids. As he was leaving Rebecca’s house, though, Miguel told her that she was his favorite person.

Kate comforted her mother as she cried in bed.

A recap of what Rebecca told the Big Three in ‘This Is Us’ Season 6 Episode 7

Per IMDb, the synopsis for This Is Us Season 6 Episode 7 reads, “Rebecca has a big announcement to make at Thanksgiving dinner.” And it was a big announcement, indeed.

In the present day, Rebecca, Miguel, Kate, Toby, Randall, Beth, Kevin, and the grandkids, minus Kevin’s children, traveled to the cabin to spend Thanksgiving together. Jae-Won called Randall to let him know that a senator wanted to get in touch with him, but Randall wanted to spend the day with his family with no interruptions.

The tension between Kate and Toby continued to build. While making the sugar pie with Rebecca, Kate wanted to let Jack lick the spoon, but Toby wasn’t happy. Kate confronted Toby, who was wearing the Pilgrim Rick hat, when he scrapped the marshmallows off Jack’s sweet potatoes at dinner. Toby expressed that he was worried that they were feeding Jack too much and should consider their genetics. And Kevin told Toby to take off the Pilgrim Rick hat.

After dinner, Kate and Toby discussed their problems with food growing up. Toby told her that he didn’t want Jack to feel the same way he did as a “fat kid.” And Kate said to him that after her dad died, she would sing “Kiss Me” from She’s All That to stop herself from eating. Kate wanted Toby to know that she puts a lot of thought into feeding Jack and Hailey.

Later, Rebecca told Kevin, Kate, and Randall that Miguel would be her power of attorney. And in the unfortunate case that Miguel cannot do that for Rebecca, she wants Kate to make the decisions for her. Rebecca’s final plea to her children was that they would not put their lives on pause because of her. She told them, “You will not make your lives smaller because of me.”

When Kate asked Rebecca why she chose her, her mother said, “You are my daughter and my best friend. It was always you, Kate.” And back in Los Angeles, Kate wrote down the recipe for the sugar pie, and she said to Hailey that she would tell her the secret ingredient one day.

This Is Us Season 6 Episode 8, “The Guitar Man,” airs Tuesday, March 15, at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
