NBC’s This Is Us Season 6 is bound to bring fans to tears, as their beloved characters are on the small screen for the last time. But it’s still a mystery as to what exactly fans can expect for the final three episodes. Recently, showrunner Dan Fogelman promised that any new loose ends will be tied up by the This Is Us Season 6 finale. Here’s what he said about resolving new “twists or turns.”

The This Is Us Season 6 finale marks the end of the long-running series, and fans can’t believe their time with the Pearsons is almost over. So, why isn’t there a This Is Us Season 7? Series creator Dan Fogelman explained why he didn’t want the Emmy-winning drama to drag on for too long.

“It’s not because we don’t have any more story to tell,” he shared at an event, according to NBC Insider. “It’s because we exactly planned it to go this way.  And so we’re on a five‑year path, and to suddenly pivot and add more because we don’t want it to end, it wouldn’t be quite responsible to the show and what we have planned, and it would start becoming something else.”

Fans hopeful for spinoffs also shouldn’t get their hopes up. “So, there is no real spinoff because you kind of know everything,” he told Variety. “Is there another play for the show? I guess you’d never say never, but I don’t see it. It’s personal to me, and I don’t see myself picking this thing back up.”

Many fans don’t necessarily want any more twists in the last two episodes leading up to the This Is Us Season 6 finale. There are plenty of loose ends that still need tying up, and adding more plot lines may lose some viewers. Thankfully, creator Dan Fogelman has a plan. He told TV Insider that any new twists added to the plot from this point forward will be resolved by the show’s end.

“If there is another twist or turn to be had [in the finale], it will be resolved,” Fogelman told the publication.

Additionally, the creator said he hopes fans will leave the show with an “uplifted” outlook. “So, my hope is that, yes, people will be uplifted at the end, even if sad things have befallen favorite characters,” he added.

Dan Fogelman possibly suggests that new twists could happen in the final three episodes. But we’re betting it’s a fairly predictable road to the This Is Us Season 6 finale. Season 6 episode 16 focuses on the Big Three coming together to decide the next steps for Rebecca after Miguel’s death. Episode 17, “The Train,” will likely feature Rebecca’s death. And the final episode, “Us,” will probably feature several flash-forward sequences where viewers can get a peek into the lives of the next generations of Pearsons.

The cast doesn’t want to say goodbye to the show. This could possibly leave room for a reunion or movie later on. “This is, obviously, something that I will miss forever,” Justin Hartley told TV Insider. “It’s the greatest job I’ve ever had, with just a wonderful group, this wonderful family. These are terrific people that I will forever be friends with, that I will forever do anything for. So, it’s kind of sad that I won’t get to see them very often after the show. Obviously, we’ll all go on and do our own things, but I will keep in touch with every one of them.”
