‘This Is Us’ Season 6: Kevin and Madison Grow Further Apart in Episode 1, But There May Still Be Hope for the Couple

Sorry, Kevin and Madison fans. The couple took a significant step backward in This Is Us Season 6 Episode 1. After Madison called off their wedding in the season 5 finale, due to Kevin not being in love with her, the two characters are now trying their hands at co-parenting. However, it’s looking to be a lot harder than Kevin and Madison once thought.

When This Is Us Season 6 Episode 1 began, Kevin and Madison appeared to be thriving at co-parenting. However, the further we got into the episode, the more obvious it became that there was still tension between the couple.

Kevin moved into Madison’s garage to be closer to his babies. But, in doing so, he was also too close to Madison, who was trying to move on in her romantic life. After Madison’s book club meeting, Elijah, one of her friends, stayed to help her clean up. It was clear that something was going on between Madison and Elijah, and Kevin didn’t like it one bit.

Seeing Madison and Elijah together made Kevin realize that things were indeed over between him and Madison. So, he moved out of her garage and into Kate’s guest room. Kevin expressed to his sister that he had trouble coming to terms with the fact that his children wouldn’t grow up living with both of their parents. He was also struggling with Rebecca’s declining health. But Kate wisely told him that there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel.

While Kevin’s jealousy in This Is Us Season 6 Episode 1 may have indicated something still there between him and Madison, the door might be closing on their relationship for good. But Kevin did say he was going to accept a job in The Manny reboot to be closer to his kids. So there is always hope that the two may rekindle their flame.

Justin Hartley teases that ‘anything’s possible’ regarding Kevin and Madison’s relationship

One of the biggest mysteries of This Is Us revolves around who Kevin ends up with romantically in season 6, and that puzzle started to unravel in episode 1. But is there any chance that Kevin marries the mother of his children? During an interview with Deadline, Justin Hartley discussed his character’s relationship with Madison in the final season.

“Anything’s possible,” Hartley teased. As for if Kevin will reconnect with some of his ex-girlfriends, the actor said, “Maybe. I mean, he’s got a couple of old connections that are pretty deep-rooted. There could be somebody totally new, but who knows? I mean, I know, but I can’t say.”

Hartley added that Kevin has “a lot to figure out” in the final season. “He’s dealing with his mom, he’s got career stuff going on, but it’s mostly the family and the kids, and his love life.”

This Is Us Season 6 Episode 1 set the stage for the final part of Kevin’s romantic journey. But fans still have no clue who his wife could be.

Is Kevin OK being single in ‘This Is Us’ Season 6 Episode 1?

Before the premiere of This Is Us Season 6 Episode 1, Justin Hartley talked with Entertainment Weekly about Kevin’s storyline.

“When [Kevin] finally wraps his brain around the fact that it’s actually OK to be alone, that opens him up to be available to other people, instead of the square peg/round hole thing that he constantly tries to do,” the actor shared. “He’s OK being alone. He’s not lonely, he’s alone. That’s totally different. And I think that opens him to love.”

So, perhaps Kevin has to get comfortable being alone before he can jump into anything serious romantically. Whatever the case may be, it sounds like fans will have to wait a while before they get any answers regarding Kevin and his future wife.
