‘This Is Us’ Season 6 Producer Reveals Fans Will See More of Nicky and Edie’s Romance in Episode 5, ‘Their Banter Is Just Fun’
This Is Us fans finally learned who Nicky is married to in the future — a flight attendant named Edie. But now, fans are wondering if they will see the couple’s romance unfold in This Is Us Season 6. Thankfully, one of the show’s producers revealed that there is much more to come for Nicky and Edie.

Nicky met Edie in ‘This Is Us’ Season 6 Episode 2
Rebecca and Miguel took Nicky on a road trip to see Sally, his lost love, in This Is Us Season 6 Episode 2. However, when they arrived at her house, the trio found out Sally had a husband.
An awkward dinner, heartfelt confessions, and sad revelations ensued. But, in the end, it was clear that Nicky and Sally were not meant to be. Nicky had been thinking about Sally for 50 years, and that was more than enough for him because it gave him hope. He finally got closure, and he, Rebecca, and Miguel left Sally’s house with a new perspective on life.
Nicky then decided that it was time to leave California and move back east. And while he was on the airplane at the end of This Is Us Season 6 Episode 2, Nicky met Edie, a flight attendant. The hour then jumped into the future, where the show revealed that Edie, now Nicky’s wife, is the one in the white car arriving at Kevin’s house. Nicky meets his spouse outside, where they greet one another and kiss.
A ‘This Is Us’ producer is excited for fans to see Nicky and Edie in episode 5
After This Is Us Season 6 Episode 2 aired, the hour’s director and producer, Kay Oyegun, and writer, Kevin Falls, discussed everything that went down in “One Giant Leap” with Entertainment Weekly, including the reveal that Nicky marries Edie. They also talked about how much fans will see of Edie in the final season.
“She folds in really well,” Oyegun shared. “Every time you see Nicky, you’ll see Edie. That’s literally what we told her. We’re like, ‘You’re now his wife. So whenever he’s around, you’re around.’ She’s a part of the Pearson family now.”
The producer continued, “What we love so much is the perspectives of these people who marry into the Pearsons — the Beth perspective, the Miguel perspective, the Toby perspective, and now the Edie perspective — because they’re all such different people and they’re observing this very unique Pearson brood, with fun observations. Her banter with Griffin [Dunne] is just fun, fun, fun. Oh, I can’t wait for people to see episode 5!”
The fifth episode of This Is Us Season 6 is titled “Heart and Soul.” It will premiere on Feb. 22, following the Winter Olympics break. Episode 5’s plot is unknown, but we’re sure that This Is Us fans are looking forward to seeing more of Nicky and Edie.
Oyegun teases the new couple’s relationship
During the interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kay Oyegun talked more about Edie as a character and how she and Nicky operate as a couple in This Is Us.
“She’s funny,” the producer said. “And she gives as good as she gets. She matches wits with Nicky, and she holds nothing back. People sometimes can be delicate around Nicky, but she’s all about it. One of the lines that we cut because of time is when she’s walking, before the kiss at the end, she says, ‘How are you doing, you old toad?’ That’s her jam. She’s a flight attendant, so she’s used to dealing with very interesting people, so Nicky is nothing.”
