Kevin and Sophie end up together by the end of This Is Us Season 6 Episode 14. They spend time together in town before Kate’s wedding, as Sophie explains the airline lost her luggage. Together, Sophie and Kevin attain toiletries and clothing for Sophie to wear to Kate’s big day. So begins their reconnection.
The exes begin catching up, and Sophie explains how she’s been busy traveling as a nurse. Kevin wonders how this works with her husband, Grant, not traveling with her. Eventually, Sophie spills the beans about Grant. She’s officially divorced. Later that night, Sophie heads to Kevin’s hotel room, but their romance goes awry when Kevin notes her hair smells how it did when they were married. Ultimately, after speaking to Rebecca the next day, Sophie realizes she loves Kevin, and they have a sincere conversation about their past and present selves.
“I don’t want us to fall back into the old versions of ourselves,” she tells Kevin, according to TVLine. “I need you to love me for the woman that I am now, not the woman that I was, because you’re not the man that you were. And I want to fall in love with the man that you’ve become.”
What happened with Sophie’s husband, Grant?
With the news of Sophie’s divorce in This Is Us Season 6 Episode 14, what exactly happened with her husband?
According to Sophie, she and Grant’s marriage was over for quite some time before the divorce, as they stopped connecting romantically. She didn’t say anything about the divorce earlier because she still needed to accept everything that happened between her and her ex-husband. Kevin also mentions he liked Grant when he met him at Kate’s engagement party.
Many fans felt that Kevin’s ex and Grant were no longer together given what actor Alexandra Breckenridge said before the episode aired.
“I think they’ve been teasing that it’s a possibility that something happened between the two,” Breckenridge told E! News. “Who knows? Maybe his schedule didn’t allow for him to be there, you know? It could be just so simple. We don’t know yet! Maybe something happened between the two of them, or maybe he just couldn’t make it out.”
Actor Alexandra Breckenridge called the episode script an ’emotional rollercoaster’
Sophie actor Alexandra Breckenridge spoke to creator Dan Fogelman about where her character ends up in This Is Us Season 6 Episode 14. She knew Sophie and Kevin would end up together, and she also knew Sophie’s marriage to Grant wouldn’t last. All in all, the script for this episode took her on an “emotional rollercoaster.”
“I had a creative conversation with Dan Fogelman about where he wanted to take the character this season,” she told People. “So, I kind of knew what was coming up, but reading the script … it took me on the emotional rollercoaster that I think we take everybody on watching it.”
Breckenridge also noted she’s “really, really happy with the episode” and the rekindled feelings between Sophie and Kevin. “It’s really romantic and it was just very satisfying. I’m really happy with it.”
