To All The Boys fans said goodbye to the franchise with the last installment, Always and Forever. Now, fans will get a chance to revisit the series through Lara Jean’s younger sister, Kitty Song Covey (played by Anna Cathcart). Netflix ordered a spinoff series based on the To All The Boys film series, titled XO, Kitty. Jenny Han, the author of the book trilogy, serves as co-showrunner. Here is everything we know about the Netflix spinoff series so far.

The spinoff series will focus on Kitty’s love life

XO, Kitty centers around Kitty, a self-proclaimed love expert who gets a rude awakening about relationships. Per the official logline, it reads, “Teen matchmaker Kitty Song Covey thinks she knows everything there is to know about love. But when she moves halfway across the world to reunite with her long-distance boyfriend, she’ll soon realize that relationships are a lot more complicated when it’s your own heart on the line.”

According to Insider, To All The Boys author Jenny Han revealed the spinoff series is “basically the stories that I would have written if I was going to continue with the books.” Han wrote the book trilogy that inspired the To All The Boys film series; To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before; P.S. I Still Love You; and Always and Forever, Lara Jean.

Alongside Han, Sascha Rothchild (The Carrie Diaries, The Babysitters Club) will serve as showrunner. Also, Awesomeness Studios will produce the 10-episode series.

In the first installment of the To All The Boys series, Kitty Song Covey was 11 years old. Now, fans will get to see a more mature version of the pre-teen. Han told Insider that Kitty would be the same age as Lara Jean was in the first movie. In this case, Lara Jean was 16-years old in To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before.

“When we first meet [Kitty] in the first film, I believe she was 11 or so 12,” she explained. “And then we got to grow up with her a bit through the years. So it is very special to see her come into her own and pick up the mantle.”

With both of her sisters in college, Han revealed that Kitty would embark on her journey. “She is probably the most self-possessed of the three girls,” she added. “You know, she’s the kind of person who is very sure of herself and strong-willed and confident in the decisions she makes. The show will be about seeing her make a few stumbles and really grow into her own.”

When is the spinoff series premiering on Netflix?

At the moment, there is no official release date for the To All The Boys spinoff series. In addition, there is limited information regarding casting details and the overall plotline. Right now, the series is currently in development. Han recently told Insider that she’s working on a television adaption for her other novel, The Summer I Turned Pretty, for Amazon Studios. After that, she’ll fully devote her time to XO Kitty
