Another year has gone by, and the Tonys 2021 are finally upon us. The Tony Awards are set to honor the 2019-2020 season, and it’s the first Tonys since the pandemic. But those who are interested in watching the show live are probably wondering how they can tune in to watch their favorite Broadway performances compete for the gold. How can you watch the Tonys 2021?

The Tonys 2021 official name is The Tony Awards Present: Broadway’s Back! and the American Theatre Wing’s 74th annual Tony Awards. It will take place on Sept. 26 beginning at 7:00 p.m. ET. According to KHOU11, the Tonys 2021 will actually be a four-hour event split into two parts when it broadcasts.

The first half of the show — which will take place from 7:00 p.m. ET to 9:00 p.m. ET — will air exclusively on Paramount+. Audra McDonald will host this part of the awards ceremony. This is also where the bulk of the awards will be handed out.

The second half of the show — which will take place from 9:00 p.m. ET to 11:00 p.m. ET — will air exclusively on CBS. Leslie Odom Jr. will host this part of the awards ceremony. This part of the Tonys 2021 will feature live performances. “Jagged Little Pill,” “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” and “Tina – The Tina Turner Musical” featurettes will all be broadcast. Odom Jr.’s half of the special will give away the top three Tony Awards: best play, best play revival and best musical.

What happened to the Tonys last year?

The Tonys 2021 is the first time that the Tony Awards have been broadcast since 2019. According to an official news release, the 2020 Tonys were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The 74th Annual Tony Awards, scheduled to air live on the CBS Television Network on Sunday, June 7th from Radio City Music Hall in New York City, will be postponed and rescheduled at a later date, in coordination with our broadcast partner,” said the news release. “The health and safety of the Broadway community, artists, and fans are of the utmost importance to us.”

There will be several awards handed out at the Tonys 2021. But the main awards are the best play, best play revival, and the best musical.

The Musical” and “Tina – The Tina Turner Musical” are nominated for the best musical. “Betrayal,” “Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune,” and “A Soldier’s Play” are all nominated for the best revival of a play. And “Grand Horizons” by Bess Wohl, “The Inheritance” by Matthew López, “Sea Wall/A Life,” by Simon Stephens and Nick Payne, “Slave Play” by Jeremy O. Harris, and “The Sound Inside” by Adam Rapp are all nominated for the best play.
