Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian’s Relationship Is Giving Fans Major Deja Vu
Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian are one of pop culture’s hottest couples. Fans have been obsessed with the longtime friends-turned-couple since they started dating in early 2021. After the news of their recent engagement, Kardashian and Barker are in the spotlight even more.
The two are very happy together. But there was a time when Barker was in a different relationship — with the mother of his two children. In the early 2000s, Barker and Shanna Moakler appeared everywhere. Some fans see bizarre similarities between that relationship and Barker’s current relationship with Kardashian.

Barker and Moakler first crossed paths in 2002, according to Elite Daily. The well-known Blink-182 drummer had just split from his first wife, Melissa Kennedy. Things moved quickly between Barker and Moakler. By late 2003, they welcomed their first child, a son named Landon.
In October 2004, Barker and Moakler tied the knot in an extravagant Nightmare Before Christmas-themed wedding. The theme fit perfectly with the couple’s love of theme parks and all things gothic.
Just one year after their wedding, Barker and Moakler premiered their reality TV series, Meet the Barkers. The MTV series ran for two seasons. It featured a special storyline that saw the couple welcome their second child, a daughter named Alabama.
In August 2006, Barker filed for divorce from Moakler. The couple reconciled and split several times over the years. An altercation in 2014 may have solidified their breakup. Sometime between then and 2016, Barker bought a house and distanced himself from his ex-wife.

Barker’s relationships remained out of the spotlight for several years. Then he started dating his longtime friend and neighbor Kardashian in February 2021. The two wasted no time sharing their love with the world, posting lots of sweet and sultry pictures to Instagram.
Over the months that followed, engagement rumors swirled. Sources close to the Kardashian family claimed Barker and Kourtney were talking marriage.
In October 2021, Barker and Kourtney got engaged on the beach at the Rosewood Miramar Beach hotel in Montecito, California. While details of their wedding plans are few at best, it seems likely that the two will continue to bring fans along for the ride.
Are there similarities between Barker’s two big romances?
It has been years since Barker and Moakler were involved romantically. But some eagle-eyed fans note striking similarities between Barker’s love affair with Moakler and his romance with Kourtney.
As reported by Us Weekly, Barker has used some of the same courting tactics for both women. This includes flying a banner that reads “Happy Birthday Kourtney” in the skies over Calabasas for her birthday. He did the same thing for Moakler years ago. As Moakler said, “Having the banner fly over [for Kourtney], which is documented in our TV show, Meet the Barkers, I just said that I thought it was kind of weird.”
Barker has also shown his devotion to both women by getting tattoos honoring them. However, he recently covered up his “Shanna” tattoo with a new design of a black scorpion and a tattoo of Kourtney’s lips.
Finally, the reality TV show connection is strong. Meet the Barkers documented his romance with Moakler. Reportedly, Hulu’s brand-new Kardashian family reality show is filming Barker’s love affair with Kourtney. Certainly, the similarities are striking, although it seems unlikely that either Kardashian or Barker cares.
