Forty percent of people born since 1980 have a tattoo, according to the Pew Charitable Trusts. But we’re willing to bet that most of those people didn’t let their friends chose their ink for them. Unless they were on How Far Is Tattoo Far?, that is. The hit MTV show features friends and family members designing tattoos for people they’re close to — who don’t get to see the art until it’s already on their body.

How Far Is Tattoo Far? returns May 23

How Far Is Tattoo Far? — which is the U.S. version of the U.K. show Just Tattoo of Us — premiered on MTV in October 2018, and it’s already coming back for Season 2. The show, which is hosted by Younger’s Nico Tortorella and Jersey Shore’s Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi, returns with back-to-back episodes on Thursday, May 23 at 9/8c on MTV.

MTV will stoke fan excitement for the new season by airing How Far Is Tattoo Far: Top 10 Cringe-Worthy Tattoos on Thursday May 16 at 9/8c. That special will highlight 10 of the most outrageous tattoos from last season, as well as behind-the-scenes footage and updates on the duos.

Some of the first season’s more memorable reveals include the chastity belt that Dacota designed for her friend, would-be cam girl Melody, a trash-can design that referenced one person’s intimate body odor, the demon baby a woman had tattooed on her brother’s crotch, and the portrait of herself with the words “number one” that one woman inked on her boyfriend — right next to a tattoo of his mom.

Celebrity guests on Season 2

Last season Jersey Shore‘s Angelina Pivarnick and her fiance chose tattoos for each other. Season 2 of How Far Is Tattoo Far? will also feature a number of celebrity guests, including:

  • Cheyenne Floyd and Cory Wharton from Teen Mom OG
  • Codi Butts and Kirk Medas from Floribama Shore
  • Zach Holmes and Chad Tepper from Too Stupid to Die
  • Tony Raines from The Challenge: Final Reckoning and Alyssa Giacone from Real World: Skeletons
  • Kailah Casillas from The Challenge: Final Reckoning

Is How Far Is Tattoo Far? real or fake?

Some people who appear on How Far Is Tattoo Far? loved their new body art, while others had a seriously negative reaction. Given how extreme some of these tattoos are, some viewers wondered if they were really permanent, or if people were getting fake tattoos for the show. But people who appeared last season say the ink is definitely real. They even wear black-out goggles so they don’t get a peek of their new tattoo before the big reveal.

Snooki has said that seeing people react to their new tattoos is emotional.

“It was so much emotion. It would be like so happy and beautiful to like, ‘Oh my God, how could they do that to each other?’” she told Refinery29 last year. “It was like a roller coaster of emotions.”

I thought everyone was f*cking crazy to come on the show,” she added.
