It’s no secret that the Cullen family is extremely tight-knit. Though most of them share no blood relation, their non-human diet allowed them to form deep bonds with one another. And it seems that the actors that portrayed the vegetarian vampires in the films were also able to form close attachments. While working on the first Twilight movie, the actors got very close to each other.

Of course, it’s not uncommon for actors to grow close while working on a project together. Spending several months with the same group of people is bound to yield some connection. However, the Cullens developed a particularly strong camaraderie on Twilight that mirrored an actual family.

The actors who were cast as the Cullens became something of an actualy family while filming ‘Twilight’

Though they were filming with each other all day, many of the Twilight cast members hung out off set also. In fact, it became a habit for them to chill in each other’s hotel rooms after they wrapped for the day. This kinship helped make their connection all the more believable. In an interview with Collider, Robert Pattinson (Edward Cullen) reflected on the natural rapport he had with his Cullen castmates.

“But with the family, they’re just really funny people and so I just got on with them,” the Twilight star recalled. “It wasn’t really acting. I just had an American accent. Peter (Facinelli who played Carlisle Cullen) is one of the funniest people I’ve ever met.”

The Cullens had family sing-a-longs

And Pattinson wasn’t the only one to talk about how close-knit the Cullen family became. When Vanity Fair asked Jackson Rathbone (Jasper Hale) who his closest friends were on the Twilight set, he gave a very sweet response.

“All the Cullens,” Rathbone stated about his Twilight castmates. “We were truly like a family on and off set. We would go out to dinner, hang out at the hotel, work out together in the hotel gym, and we even had family sing-a-longs.”

Nikki Reed helped Robert Pattinson’s songs end up on the soundtrack for ‘Twilight’

One person who was frequently leading these sing-a-longs was Pattinson himself. Prior to his acting career taking off, The Batman actor had dreams of becoming a musician. He would often play guitar and sing for his Twilight castmates, while they were hanging out in their hotel rooms.

Pattinson may have just been goofing off, but one of his fellow castmates really enjoyed his music. Nikki Reed (who played Rosalie Hale) actually found a CD of some of Pattinson’s music and passed it along to Twilight’s director, Catherine Hardwicke. Unbeknownst to Pattinson, Hardwicke put one of his songs into the final cut of the film. And, another song of his actually ended up on the movie’s soundtrack. So clearly, the Cullen family sing-a-longs paid off in more ways than one.
