TXT’s performance of “We Lost the Summer” marked their first appearance and performance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. For the performance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Soobin, Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Huening Kai performed in an expansive school setting.

The quintet began the “We Lost the Summer” stage in a dimly-lit cafeteria. For the first verse and chorus, the band performed in an empty classroom before moving to a hallway of lockers.

During the second half of the song, the members traveled back to the cafeteria. At the end of the song, the cafeteria filled with bright pink light as Soobin, Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Huening Kai performed.

“We Lost the Summer” was co-written by singer-songwriter Charli XCX. With the song, the members of TXT explore the feeling of loss teenagers experienced due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

A music video for “We Lost the Summer” was released on Nov. 12, 2020. At the start of the music video, the members hang out together. As they take pictures of one another, a notification about the pandemic pops up on the screen of a mobile phone.

The remainder of the music video shows TXT dealing with their new reality as they attempt to stay connected while being physically apart.

“Cause we lost the summer / When we lost each other / Give me back my season / Oh, it’s all gone / Endless winter / Now I just miss ya / Give us back ourselves / Oh, it’s all gone / We lost the summer,” the band sings in the chorus.
