When a Spice Girl marries a celebrated soccer hero, the results are bound to be spectacular. That’s exactly what happened when Victoria “Posh Spice” Adams tied the knot with David “Golden Balls” Beckham on July 4, 1999.

Today, the couple is worth a bundle. Which celebrity is worth more? Is it Victoria or David Beckham?

Here’s what we found out

In September 2015, a British newspaper revealed the astounding fact that Victoria and David Beckham’s combined wealth exceeded that of the Queen. Of course, Victoria’s tenure as a Spice Girl raked in a pretty penny, and David’s soccer career was surely profitable, too. But, richer than Her Majesty herself? In a word, yes.

How David and Victoria became wealthier than the Queen of England

Born David Robert Joseph Beckham in Leytonstone, East London, on May 2, 1975, David grew up in a middle class household with two sisters, Lynne Georgina and Joanne Louise. From a very early age, David dreamed of being a footballer and said as much to his teachers at Chase Lane Primary School.

By 1991, Beckham was wowing soccer spectators around the world and was signed to his first professional athletic contract in January 1993. In 1999, while playing for Manchester United, he met Victoria Adams at a soccer match. Victoria was at the top of her fame with a giddy pop group called the Spice Girls. The romance between the two notable celebs came about in whirlwind fashion, and the couple married in Ireland on the 4th of July. The couple, nicknamed ‘Posh and Becks’ by the British media, already had an infant son, Brooklyn, at the time of the nuptials.

These days, Beckham is retired from professional football but still brings in a handsome living with his ultra good looks and good investment sense. He models and does promo work for companies such as Haig Club Whisky, H&M, and Adidas.

Mrs. Beckham was born Victoria Caroline Adams in Essex, England on April 17, 1974. Her parents wealth primed her for her Spice Girls nickname, ‘Posh.’ The Spice Girls were a pre-fab singing group that was put together in 1994 by Simon Fuller. Yes, he’s the same guy who invented American Idol. Via an ad in The Stage magazine, Fuller found five girls he believed could sing, dance, and sell a ton of merchandise. After the band broke up in 2000, Digital Spy estimated that Victoria had earned at least $440 million from Spice Girls concert tickets and merchandise sales.

Her years as a singing and dancing pop phenomenon definitely added a considerable number of dollars to her personal coffers, but that was not the end of her moneymaking. Since marrying Beckham and breaking up the band, Victoria’s raked in at least as much cash she made as a singer. Today, Victoria brings in a small fortune every year with her clothing lines and sunglasses company, DVB. She designs garments that she herself would wear and told Allure magazine that she is ‘so grateful to the fashion industry for accepting me and giving me a chance.’

What are the power couple up to now?

Today, the Beckhams lead a seemingly charmed life in London with their three kids, Harper, Romeo, and Cruz. Eldest son, Brooklyn, spends most of his time living in New York.

So, which one of them is richer?

At one time, Beckham was the highest-paid sports star in Europe. According to The Richest, Victoria Beckham is worth a cool $450 million. Her handsome husband, David Beckham, is also worth around $450 million.
