What is Netflix’s ‘Fatal Affair’ about?

Fatal Affair was released on Netflix on July 16. The film marks the third film Long and Epps co-starred in together. The psychological drama follows David (Epps) as a crazed and obsessed attorney, who intentionally gets a job at the same firm as Ellie (Long). The two have a brief and passionate encounter that David wants to move forward. David stalks and harasses Ellie, with her learning just how deranged David is.

In an interview with The Oprah Magazine, Long admitted that the roles were initially written for white actors. Long convinced Netflix that the film would work with two Black actors, noting diversity and inclusion are necessary for films. Long also served as a producer on the film.

“Netflix and the producers supported that, and we started to make changes to the script just so it felt like my voice, and there were certain things that we changed to accommodate who I am and then to accommodate the rest of the cast,” she told the magazine.

Long was excited to switch lanes with her role in Fatal Affair. Long is known to star in romantic comedies and dramas. She was also excited to work alongside Epps again.

“Omar is like my brother, so when I read the script he was the first person I thought of,” she said. “This is a different genre for both of us. I thought it would be really interesting for him to play a character that was twisted and delusional and really scary. I’ve never done a thriller, and I wanted some good back-up so I called my friend Omar.”
