‘Vikings’ fans weigh in on characters they think are ‘hated undeservingly’

On September 10, 2021, a fan on Reddit made a post titled, “[Spoilers] Who is a character you feel is hated undeservingly?” Fans weighed in with their own thoughts, and they didn’t hold back.

Queen Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland) was mentioned the most in the comments. She’s the second wife of Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), and she became pregnant with his child while he was married to Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick). She comes calling, and Ragnar takes her in. Lagertha chooses to leave and divorce Ragnar. Aslaug gives Ragnar four children, and she rules Kattegat when he up and abandons them all for a number of years. She isn’t the best parent or even grandparent, except to Ivar (Alex Høgh Andersen). Despite her being named the most, not all fans like the character.

“Aslaug was over-hated,” a fan said.

Another fan named Aslaug as well, calling her “morally better” than Lagertha. “Aslaug, even though I like Lagertha more, Aslaug was morally better,” they said.

A fan chose Aslaug and Sigurd

Other fans named Sigurd (David Lindström), a son of Aslaug and Ragnar. One fan chose him along with his mother as well. Also known as Sigurd Snake in the Eye, he was killed by his brother, Ivar, whom he didn’t get along with. He was musically inclined, and his death is a turning point for the brothers left in the aftermath.

“I agree it’s Aslaug and Sigurd,” they said. “If I were to give the answer to the opposite question of ‘Who is a character you feel is liked undeservingly?’, it’s Lagertha no question…”

A fan says Bjorn was ‘overall’ a ‘good guy’

Some fans named Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig). He’s the first son of Ragnar, and his mother is Lagertha. He becomes the King of Kattegat, and he saves his country from the Rus Vikings. He’s known for his infidelity, which he takes to a whole new level as time goes on.

“Bjorn gets a lot of hate, but overall he was good guy and nowhere as bad as people say he is,” a fan said.

A fan says Rollo is ‘probably the most interesting character in the series’

Rollo (Clive Standen) was also named. He has no problem betraying his family and people to get ahead in life. Rollo becomes the Duke of Normandy by betraying his brother (which isn’t the first time), allying himself with Paris and marrying Princess Gisla (Morgane Polanski). He gets everything he ever wanted in the end.

“Rollo,” a fan said. “He’s probably the most interesting character in the series.”

Other characters named include Judith (Jennie Jacques), Ingrid (Lucy Martin), King Harald (Peter Franzén), Margrethe (Ida Nielsen), Helga (Maude Hirst), Torvi (Georgia Hirst), Astrid (Josefin Asplund), and even Ragnar.

Fans of Vikings have varying opinions when it comes to characters they think are “hated undeservingly.” Aslaug is mentioned the most in the comments though.
