‘Vikings’: How 1 Decision Involving Bjorn Changes Torvi’s Life Forever

In the hit series Vikings, many of the main characters have made chooses that define who they are, and Torvi (Georgia Hirst) certainly has as well. She’s gone through a lot over her short life, including having a number of companions and children that have sprung from those unions. However, one choice changes everything for her and sets her down a path of her own making.

When viewers first meet Torvi, she is the wife of Jarl Borg (Thorbjørn Harr). He chooses to take Ragnar Lothbrok’s (Travis Fimmel) lands when he’s away raiding. He brings Torvi along with him, but they don’t account for Ragnar getting help and taking Kattegat back. Ragnar has Jarl Borg blood-eagled, and Torvi is forced to watch it all go down.

Next, Torvi finds herself as the wife of Erlendur (Edvin Endre) after Ragnar kills Erlendur’s father, King Horik (Donal Logue). Erlendur is out for revenge, and he makes this plainly known to Torvi. She becomes like a prisoner with him, and she’s clearly miserable.

Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig), forms an attachment to Torvi, and he goes to get her from Hedeby. Torvi chooses to go off with Bjorn, however, Erlendur still wields some influence over her, since he has her son, Guthrum. When they go to raid Frankia, Erlendur promises to hurt Guthrum if Torvi doesn’t kill Bjorn. He shows her how to load a crossbow and hands it to her, intent on her killing Bjorn for him.

Torvi is clearly sick of being manipulated. She is worried about her son, which is making everything that much harder for her. When the moment finally comes, Torvi shoots Erlendur with the arrow and kills him right then and there in front of everyone.

With this one choice, she is able to be with Bjorn and live her life to the fullest. She can also look after her son, Guthrum now, which is the way it should be. Torvi feels she has a choice to either kill Bjorn, or kill Erlendur. She made the right decision for her future, as she goes on to be with Bjorn for many years and have children with him.

Torvi is over the manipulation

Torvi wasn’t going to let Erlendur manipulate her for even one more minute. She changes the course of her future when she kills Erlendur who wanted nothing but misery for her and the ones she loves. Torvi’s decision changes everything when instead of killing Bjorn, she kills her tormentor. She is no longer being manipulated or influenced, and can just live her life without fear for her child or the future.

After this pivotal choice, Torvi proves herself to be a capable warrior, friend, and mother. Her loyalty toward Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) is clear to anyone watching the series, and her love for Bjorn was true.

Torvi changes her life when she takes a stand against Erlendur. She no longer has to worry about what he may do to her son or to Bjorn. The fear is gone, and she can move on and live her life.
