Who is King Harald Finehair?

King Harald first makes his appearance in season 4 of Vikings when King Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) is still alive. From the very start, Harald seems to have ulterior motives since he wants to be the King of Norway, and that would mean Ragnar either conceding or having direct conflict with him. He eventually gets his wish when he manipulates the election for the kingship of Norway in favor of himself. He takes the office, getting what he’s always wanted and outdoing Bjorn in the process.

When viewers last saw Harald, he was injured during the fighting against the Rus. In season 6B, he’s captured by them, but manages to escape. He returns to Kattegat after the final battle is won, but Bjorn has already died after coming up with a masterful plan to save his country. Of course, in another attempt to outdo Bjorn, he wants to marry both of his widows, Gunnhild (Ragga Ragnars) and Ingrid (Lucy Martin).

If you haven’t gathered by now, Harald is a bad guy. He actually sexually assaults Ingrid before the first battle with the Rus, and she’s now pregnant. She agrees to marry him, but Gunnhild dies by suicide thinking she’ll go to Valhalla and be with Bjorn.

When Ivar (Alex Høgh Andersen) and Hvitserk (Marco Ilsø) return to Kattegat, Harald allows them to stay, and when Ivar wants to go back to Wessex, Harald goes as well. However, he’s killed in the first major battle between the two opposing sides by a lone soldier. But Harald manages to kill the man as well. While dying, he sees his brother, Halfdan (Jasper Pääkkönen) again, which is nice for fans to witness. Harald dies in Wessex after finally becoming the King of Norway.

Peter Franzén shares a behind-the-scenes image as King Harald Finehair

The actor who plays Harald, Peter Franzén, recently shared a behind-the-scenes photo of King Harald at his wedding. He wears his iconic crown that has striking gemstones with blood spatter on his face. The crown fits perfectly over his forehead and seems to add a regalness to it all. He has braids in his hair, which he wears down, and he sports a gold and black ensemble while looking at the camera with his striking blue eyes. Behind Franzén is the dock and members of the cast and crew can be seen in the background.

The actor captioned the post on Instagram: “Well hello #2021 ! Headgear – #check Let (fair)hair down and brush it (with some gold ) – #check Wash last years face- never mind/ never forget- #check Chin up & move forward – #check #historyvikings #amazonprime #hbonordic ⚔️✨.”

But that isn’t the only behind-the-scenes image he’s shared of the new season. As viewers might recall, Harald dies surrounded in a thick fog, making it hard to see at times. A week ago, Franzén shared an image of himself surrounded by the fog. His face can just barely be seen while the fog surrounds him in another Instagram post. His facial tattoos are still visible as well as most of his face.

He captioned the post with: “#yuletide is soon over, people. It’s time for a better #newyear !✨ But before 2021, it’s time for #historyvikings @amazonprimevideo @hbonordic ⚔️✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨⚔️.”

Fans always appreciate a behind-the-scenes post. Hopefully we’ll see more of them in the weeks to come now that Vikings has premiered.
