Who is Torvi in ‘Vikings’?

Torvi is first introduced to viewers in season 2 as the wife of Jarl Borg (Thorbjørn Harr), but he’s soon killed by Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) after Borg takes his lands from him and Ragnar manages to get them back. Torvi watches her husband die, and she later gives birth to their son, Guthrum.

Torvi then marries Erlendur (Edvin Endre), an abusive man who tries to get her to kill Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig), the eldest son of Ragnar. But she kills Erlendur instead. She becomes attached to Bjorn, and they have two children together. However, happiness doesn’t last, and when Bjorn wants to end their marriage, Torvi obliges.

Torvi is a fierce shield-maiden and close friend to Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick), Bjorn’s mother, for many years. She fights and raids, and she isn’t afraid to do what she feels is right. When Lagertha wants to take back Kattegat from Queen Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland), Torvi helps her do it without hesitation, and she’s one of Lagertha’s main supporters.

She then marries Bjorn’s half-brother, Ubbe (Jordan Patrick Smith), and this is when it’s pretty clear that Torvi feels the happiest. They go on to have a child together that they name Ragnar. She follows Ubbe to Iceland, Greenland, and finally to the Golden Land.

‘Vikings’ Season 6: Why Some Viewers Can’t Understand Torvi’s Choice

Georgia Hirst, who plays Torvi, recently shared an interesting behind-the-scenes image with her fans on Instagram. In it, she’s wearing her iconic look from a moment in season 6, episode 3 when she performs a ceremony outside Lagertha’s new home and farm.

During the memorable scene, Torvi wears white paint all over her face and black paint outlining her eyes and all over her lips. With black feathers in her hair that perfectly match her dress, she performs a ceremony and prayer to keep Lagertha’s new home safe. They even have a sacrifice during the event.

In the photo, Hirst can be seen wearing a white dress with sleeves complete with an elaborate black head piece. She holds the phone up to her face, and she appears to be in a dressing room with props. Her hair is down, and most of her face can’t really be seen. The headgear is full of black feathers that really add to the dramatic effect of the whole outfit. It’s an iconic look from season 6, and one some fans will remember.

“Miss these fittings,” Hirst captioned the post on Instagram.

The series ends with Torvi and Ubbe living in the Golden Land after they find Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård) there. It’s nice to know they found the land they were looking for, and they will hopefully prosper there in the long run. Although Vikings may be over, fans can still relive every moment by rewatching the show.
