As a son of the famous Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), Ivar has a lot to prove to everyone. He grows up with pure anger and rage inside of him, and it comes out in unexpected ways.

He proves himself to be a brilliant tactician, and he even makes himself King of Kattegat while declaring himself a god. He has people killed like it’s nothing, and he has no remorse for his actions. Ivar is eventually booted out of Kattegat and he goes running for his life.

Ivar makes his way to Kiev and the Rus Vikings, which are led by Prince Oleg (Danila Kozlovsky), the Prophet. He joins Oleg’s plan to take back Scandinavia and Kattegat with it. When last fans see Ivar, he’s fighting with the Rus against his own people in the fight for Scandinavia.

What do fans really think of Ivar? Fans weigh in on the complex character

Fans have been known to discuss Ivar and his treachery, especially now while fans wait for the second half of Vikings season 6 to premiere. A fan recently asked on Reddit what other fans think about Ivar the Boneless.

“He’s done some awful things, but a very interesting character he is. If you’re caught up, he had a great arc in 6A. Really enjoyed it. Alex Høgh Andersen is a fantastic actor as well,” a fan wrote in response on Reddit.

Ivar redeems himself in season 6A

One fan really liked Ivar when he was participating in the Great Heathen Army in revenge for his father’s death. After that, he goes downhill and does some pretty awful things in his pursuit of power. But he redeems himself in the eyes of many fans in season 6A.

“Exactly, I loved him so much during the times of the Great Heathen Army, but when he became king and proclaimed he was a god I was very disappointed because I liked him so much,” another Reddit user revealed. “Season 6A made me love him again.”

Some fans think Ivar could be a psychopath

Another fan thinks Ivar is actually a psychopath. Throughout his childhood he is “bullied” and he even kills another child in his first real outburst. “I think he is somewhat of a psychopath. He was bullied his whole childhood and his traits resemble some modern-day serial killers,” a fan said.

A fan totally agrees considering Ivar is just a boy when he kills another kid for not letting him keep the ball and play along. It’s a sad turn of events when they are all just being kids.

“He literally killed a kid with an ax for not letting him play along, he killed his own brother without shedding a tear, killed his other brother’s girlfriend without remorse, and killed and manipulated a lot of other people as well,” a fan pointed out.

One fan thinks there are reasons why Ivar goes down his chosen path. He’s already full of rage, and then he loses both parents, which just triggers him further. After that, he wants nothing but revenge and power.

“Yes but he does have layers and complexities. There are reasons he went down that path,” a Reddit user wrote. “After losing both his parents, he was angry. He lashed out at the people close to him and went on his whole power trip.”
