In season 6, Bjorn is now King of Kattegat, and he must secure his territory and defenses by having someone look after it while he’s away. He asks Ubbe (Jordan Patrick Smith) and Torvi to come and rule in his place while he’s gone helping to secure King Harald’s (Peter Franzén) freedom. They agree, though at the time they are with Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) getting her set up in her new home.

It’s decided that Torvi and Ubbe will leave the children with Lagertha while they are away in Kattegat. It’s a bad idea, and one that brings death to Hali, Torvi’s oldest child. The children are meant to keep their grandmother, Lagertha, company and to help out on the farm.

The bandits come and Hali is killed

At the beginning of the season, Bjorn lets a number of men go free and brands them. They start attacking nearby villages, including one close to Lagertha. She chooses to help them, and Hali is of course on hand to witness events.

When the bandits come again, the villagers and Lagertha fend them off, but as the bandits are leaving in disgrace, Hali appears out of nowhere acting like children do. The bandit leader sees this and charges him, striking him with his sword and killing him. It’s a terrible turn of events, and something that could have been avoided.

‘Vikings’: What Do Fans Really Think of Torvi?

Torvi could have very easily insisted that her children accompany her back to Kattegat. It’s understandable that they didn’t want Lagertha to feel lonely, but her children should have remained with her. If Torvi had taken her children back with her, Hali would still be alive. His death could have been avoided, and it’s something Torvi will regret for the rest of her life. How could anyone not regret something like that happening to their child? Torvi’s children’s lives are put in danger, and it’s something she can never take back.

If Torvi had simply taken Hali with her, he’d still be alive. He wouldn’t have been killed by the bandit leader, and he’d be able to grow up and live a full and meaningful life. It’s a sad end to Hali’s life, and something Torvi will always regret.

Everyone regrets Hali’s death, including Lagertha. If she hadn’t brought him with her to fight the bandits, he’d be alive, but instead, he does what kids do, and plays around. It’s one of the most painful and senseless deaths in the series.

Some fans still have a hard time watching the death of Hali in season 6 of Vikings. Torvi should have taken him with her back to Kattegat where he’d still be alive.
