‘Virgin River’: Fans Are Convinced Preacher May Have Shot Jack

At first glance, Virgin River appears to be a quiet Netflix series about love and second chances. Though the series does center Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) and her second chance at happiness with Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson), the series is also full of mystery and drama.

As fans know, Jack has been trying to uncover who shot him. Though Brady (Ben Hollingsworth), has been arrested for the crime, a new fan theory suggests that Preacher (Colin Lawrence) may have actually pulled the trigger.

Brady was arrested for shooting Jack in ‘Virgin River’ Season 3

In the first season of Virgin River, fans watched Brady and Jack’s friendship crumble as Brady got mixed up with the town’s drug dealer, Calvin (David Cubit). At the end of season 2, Jack was found shot at his bar, with Calvin being the prime suspect.

However, by the end of season 3. Mike (Marco Grazzini), a former Marine who is now a detective, arrested Brady for shooting his friend. For many fans including Hollingsworth, things just aren’t adding up.

“It’s got to be tough to feel like an outsider in such a small town,” Hollingsworth told TV Line. “But he’s also been an outsider his whole life. His parents weren’t really around when he was younger. His uncle raised him, and pretty much left him to his own devices. I think he’s used to living on the fringe. He’s also kind of like a stray dog. He can survive just about any situation. I think a lot of people in Virgin River underestimate him.”

Now, fans are looking toward a new suspect.

Fans are convinced Preacher may have shot Jack

No one seems convinced that Brady pulled the trigger, even Henderson. “I’m hoping that there’s room for healing around the Brady-Jack relationship at some point,” he told TV Insider. “There’s a brotherly love there and I think the kind of bond that can only exist between people who were in war zones together. It’s such an intense situation and that sense of connectedness [and] loyalty is very, very deep. It’d be nice to maybe see some of that healed.” That would be especially difficult if Brady had been the one to try to kill Jack.”

However, there is a new theory swirling that puts Jack’s best friend Preacher behind the gun. As we know, like Jack, Preacher is a retired Marine. One Redditor via Looper is convinced that Preacher shot Jack as a result of “sleepwalking with PTSD.” Another is convinced that Preacher and Mike went in together to set Brady up and get him out of town.

While Mike has ulterior motives, we don’t see Preacher being that cruel and calculating.

‘Virgin River’ Season 4 will reveal who shot Jack

Though fans aren’t convinced that Brady had anything to do with Jack’s shooting and other suspects including Preacher and Charmaine’s (Lauren Hammersley) new husband Todd (Patrick Sabongui) are also suspects, fans are just going to have to wait until season 4.

Netflix renewed Virgin River for a season 4 and 5 and the fourth season just wrapped filming in Vancouver. This means that we can expect new episodes in mid-to-late 2022. When the new season does premiere, Virgin River showrunner Sue Tenney has promised fans to reveal who pulled the trigger on Jack.

“The audience will be genuinely surprised at who’s behind all of it,” Tenney told TV Insider. It would really break our heart if Preacher accidentally pulled the trigger.
