Is Jack the father of Mel’s baby on ‘Virgin River’?

In the Virgin River Season 3 finale, just as Jack was set to propose to Mel she revealed that she was pregnant. She also explained to Jack that she wasn’t sure if he was the father of her child, leaving him stunned into silence. As Virgin River fans know, amid her breakup with Jack, Mel went through a round of IVF using an embryo she’d previously created with her late husband.

Since the timelines of conception overlap, the paternity of her baby is unclear. However, Virgin River fans say that the truth about Mel’s baby’s father is more clear than you’d think. IVF is very taxing on the body and the first round is often unsuccessful. Therefore fans are convinced that Jack is the baby’s father.

“[Mel] was in L.A. for, like, three days and had the idea while she was there,” one Redditor explained via Looper. “I think she’s pregnant with Jack’s baby, at least I hope so.”

Mel’s baby’s name on ‘Virgin River’ has been revealed?

Fans of Carr’s Virgin River books already know that Mel will be able to have a healthy baby boy that she names David. However, Virgin River showrunner Sue Tenney and the show’s writers have not always adhered to the blueprint of the books.

Therefore, in the series, things could pan out a lot differently for Mel. “With her history, her fertility issues, and having a stillborn baby at such a late stage in pregnancy, you don’t know if she’s going to be able to,” Breckenridge told US Weekly. “In the books, she does, but a lot of things are different in the series than in the books. But I would like to watch her journey of becoming a mother.”

We’re just going to wait and see.

Will Mel and Jack break up in ‘Virgin River’ Season 4?

Though fans are nearly certain that the Virgin River writers will stick with the name David for Mel’s bundle of joy, we’re not certain that Mel and Jack’s relationship will survive. As we know Jack is already expecting twins with his ex-girlfriend Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley). The stress of their fractured relationship and the pressure by Charmaine and her new husband for Jack to give up his parental rights has already caused a major strain on Jack.

Now that Mel has revealed her pregnancy and she’s uncertain of the baby’s paternity, we certainly see the couple’s relationship going through some trials. If it’s not Jack’s baby, Jack and Mel are naturally going to have some tough times ahead,” Breckenridge told E! News via Hello! “It would be immensely difficult. That would be extremely challenging, especially for Jack. If he’s gonna stick around, if he’s devoted to Mel, that’s gonna be hard to have a baby that’s her dead husband’s baby. That’s just, like, asking a lot.”

Thankfully, Tenney has said that season 4 will answer all of our questions.
