Virgin River has captivated fans since it first debuted on Netflix in 2019. Based on the best-selling book series by Robyn Carr, the series follows Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge), a nurse who leaves behind her life in Los Angeles for a fresh start in the small town of Virgin River. Though she’s there for a new beginning, Mel finds herself enthralled with Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson), a retired Marine who owns the town bar. Their connection is spectacular, a little messy, and quick.

Audiences can’t wait for the new season of Virgin River to return, after all, they had a love/hate relationship with season 3.

‘Virgin River’ Season 3 was shocking

When the third season of Virgin River began, fans were thrilled to see that Jack survived his gunshot wound. Moreover, they were thrilled to see Jack and Mel’s relationship advance. However, things got sticky pretty quickly. Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley) randomly got engaged to a controlling lawyer who was plotting to cut off Jack’s parental custody.

Preacher (Collin Lawrence) found himself caring for Paige’s (Lexa Doig) son Christopher (Chase Petriw), which eventually left him fighting for his life. Doc (Tim Matheson) continued to hide his illness, Lilly (Lynda Boyd) died following a cancer diagnosis, and Mel and Jack’s had a big blowup that led to a big breakup.

Brady (Ben Hollingsworth) was also arrested for shooting Jack, which absolutely stunned Brie (Zibby Allen).

However, most shocking of all was Mel’s pregnancy revelation following a secret round of IVF. Now she’s unsure if Jack’s the father of her baby or if it’s her late husband Mark.

Audiences loved and hated season 3

A lot went down during the third season of Virgin River, and though fans are always thrilled to return to the small town, it was certainly a love-hate relationship.

“There were multiple cliff-hangers, which gives a little love/hate situation for the audience, where they love but hate the wait,” Henderson told The Digital Fix. “It’s going to be worth it because the writers really answer that stuff. I think people will be satisfied.”

There is no word yet on when season 4 will hit Netflix, but we’re going to assume it’s before the end of the year since filming is complete.

What will ‘Virgin River’ Season 4 be about?

There are a lot of loose ends that need to be tied up when the series returns to Netflix, namely, who the father of Mel’s baby is. Breckenridge says that it could split up Mel and Jack.

“If it’s not Jack’s baby, Jack and Mel are naturally going to have some tough times ahead,” the actor told E! News via Hello! “It would be immensely difficult. That would be extremely challenging, especially for Jack. If he’s gonna stick around, if he’s devoted to Mel, that’s gonna be hard to have a baby that’s her dead husband’s baby. That’s just, like, asking a lot.”

Moreover, Virgin River showrunner Sue Tenney has promised to resolve the mystery surrounding who shot Jack this season.

“The audience will be genuinely surprised at who’s behind all of it,” Tenney told TV Insider.  She added, “If we get the actual reveal [in season 4], it would detail more of how this all was intertwined. The webbing of that story goes all the way back to the first season, so it’s a connective tissue that goes through four seasons.”

Fans are certainly in for a treat when the show returns. Let’s just hope there won’t be so many cliffhangers in the season 4 finale.
