The Marvel Cinematic Universe has had a quiet year for the most part, but it’s about to get a whole lot busier.

Fans are excited for the new Disney+ series titled WandaVision starring Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olsen. The show will follow Scarlet Witch and Vision, though there’s still a lot to be revealed regarding the show’s plot. As if MCU fans couldn’t be excited enough,

Bettany recently sent a tweet that has gotten them even more hyped. So what was the tweet, and why are fans so excited for this show?

Initially, the show was believed to be premiering in December of this year. According to reports, however, it may drop on November 27. That would bring it into MCU fans’ homes even sooner than expected, and that’s not a moment too soon.

With no MCU films in theaters this year for the first time since 2009, MCU fans may feel as though their going stir crazy. It makes sense for Disney to push the release date up just a bit to make up for the fact that they won’t be releasing Black Widow or any other Marvel material until 2021 at the earliest.

Paul Bettany’s tweet about ‘WandaVision’

Director and comic book author/fan Kevin Smith tweeted about his excitement surrounding the upcoming series. He gushed about how “creepy” it looks. Bettany took this opportunity to retweet Smith’s tweet with the added comment that “It gets more and more bonkers.”

So what exactly does “bonkers” mean? We obviously won’t know until the series is out in full, but we can make a couple of educated guesses. The MCU has already introduced time travel into its mythos; this show looks like it draws from multiple sitcoms from different eras of TV history.

Wanda has also shown the ability to bend and control reality — this may play a huge part in the show as well.

Lastly, Marvel looks to be introducing the concept of multiverses to its cinematic universe. In Smith’s tweet, he even references Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, which is rumored to feature Scarlet Witch. This entire series could represent an alternate timeline.

Right now, it’s anyone’s guess what WandaVision will be all about as Marvel is keeping their cards close to their vest. Whatever it’s about though, fans are ready to see it.

MCU fans took to Reddit to comment on Bettany’s tweet, sharing their excitement for the upcoming series. One fan in particular almost expressed surprise at how pumped they were for the show to debut:

“I never thought I’d be excited for a show centered around Scarlet Witch, but I really can’t wait for this show!”

That statement alone encapsulates the genius of the MCU. They’ve been able to craft compelling stories around characters that may not be household names at first but who quickly became them.

Before the MCU, characters like Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man were seen as almost B-list superheroes behind bigger names like Batman, Superman, and Spider-Man. After placing a spotlight on them, fans have lined up in droves for multiple movies about them.

Scarlet Witch and Vision both began as secondary characters in the MCU — ancillary members of an ensemble. Now that they’re placed front and center, fans can’t wait to see what Marvel has in store for them.

Marvel has built up solid credit in the eyes of their fans to the point where they can experiment. It appears as though with WandaVision, they’re going to take their characters in an even more “bonkers’ direction than previous MCU films and shows.
