William H. Macy is a beloved character actor who has appeared in some iconic films and fan-favorite television shows. He has been nominated for multiple awards over the course of his long career, receiving acclaim from critics as well as fans.

Macy has received some notoriety over the past year for being married to actress Felicity Huffman, who was involved in the infamous college admissions scandal that also involved Lori Laughlin.

How did William H. Macy become famous?

William H. Macy was born in Miami, Florida, on March 13, 1950. His father worked at a construction company, while his mother was a war widow whose first husband died in 1943 during World War II.

Raised primarily in Maryland, Macy graduated high school in 1968 and initially went to college with the intent of becoming a veterinarian. Eventually, Macy transferred to an arts college and started to study theatre instead. 

In the early ’70s, while establishing himself as an actor, Macy appeared mainly in onstage productions like American Buffalo. In 1980, Macy moved to New York City and it was there that his career really took off.

In addition to appearing in multiple plays both on and off-Broadway, he began appearing in movies and television shows. A few of Macy’s biggest early hits include films such as Benny & Joon, Homicide, Being Human, The Client, Murder in the First, and Mr. Holland’s Opus.

In 1996, Macy landed the role that would define much of his career and become a blueprint for the types of characters that he would become so closely associated with for the next several decades.

Fargo remains Macy’s most popular film, although he has since gone on to appear in such big-name films as Jurassic World III, Air Force One, Boogie Nights, Wag the Dog, Thank You for Smoking, and The Lincoln Lawyer. In addition, Macy’s role in Shameless has ensured him a place in the hearts of fans everywhere. 

Macy has enjoyed the type of career that many actors envy and it truly seems as though he’s been around forever. With his birthdate of March 13th, 1950, Macy is currently sixty-nine years old and is rapidly approaching his seventieth birthday. Not only does Macy not really look his age, but he’s managed to seem much younger than his advanced years through playing characters that are both eccentric and unusual. 

Is William H. Macy still married?

In 1997, William H. Macy married actress Felicity Huffman. The two had been dating for years and shared common interests in acting and the arts. They went on to welcome two daughters together, Sophia Grace, born in 2000, and Georgia Grace, born in 2002.

Although Huffman and Macy’s marriage has always seemed like a happy one, the year 2019 threw a major wrench into their wedded bliss.

Felicity Huffman was charged in the so-called college admissions scandal and forced to spend time in federal prison.

Although Macy was not indicted in the case, his name was tarnished. While it is not clear whether or not Macy and Huffman’s marriage suffered greatly because of it, they are still married and seem determined to get through it together.

As for Macy, he is rumored to be returning for the final season of his hit series Shameless, although final details for the upcoming eleventh season have yet to be confirmed.
