New York Comic-Con welcomed ‘The Walking Dead’ cast and crew

New York Comic-Con packed ‘The Walking Dead’ virtual panel with superstars. Daryl and Carol portrayers Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride joined the discussion. Also, in the video chat were Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Khary Payton, and Paola Lázaro, who portray Negan, Ezekiel, and Princess. As an added plus, Walking Dead Universe Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple and showrunner Angela Kang rounded out the panel, which was moderated by Talking Dead host Chris Hardwick.

Chris Hardwick Asked Angela Kang about the stunning cliffhanger

The Walking Dead Season 10 finale was delayed by several months due to the production shutdown in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. But the epic conclusion to the Whisperer War was worth the wait.

In his revenge plot to avenge Alpha, default leader Beta waged war with his Whisperers and the weaponized walker horde. So, the core group of survivors hatched a Pied Piper-inspired plan to herd the walkers away and over a cliff.

Meanwhile, Negan, Beta, and Daryl found themselves in a scuffle. In a surprisingly swift finish, Daryl saved Negan from demise by stabbing Beta in both eyes with some pretty wicked blades.

Ezekiel, Eugene, Yumiko, and new traveling companion Princess completely missed out on the carnage due to their road trip to Charleston to meet up with Stephanie (Eugene’s radio love connection).

In a twist, the wandering foursome was ambushed by armored, armed soldiers. Outnumbered and outgunned, Ezekiel, Eugene, Yumiko, and Princess surrendered their weapons, leaving the audience to wonder what will come of the traveling troop.

During the New York Comic-Con panel, Hardwick asked Kang, “What can you tell us about the soldiers we saw at the end of the episode who surround Eugene’s party?”

Kang responded, “I mean, obviously, this is a strange new group that our people have run into. For comic book fans, they will recognize these characters as soldiers of the Commonwealth. And We will learn a lot more about this group in episodes to come.”

Luckily for eager fans, there is plenty of background information from the comics about the Commonwealth. According to The Walking Dead blog on AMC.com, “The Commonwealth is a bloc of communities, with approximately 50,000 members. They enjoy sophisticated technology (for the apocalypse) and live across a range of settlements and geographic areas. They have their own military with advanced weaponry, and even have their own arena where they hold sporting events and concerts for the connected towns.”

While The Walking Dead series is inspired by the graphic novels, the narrative has been known to deviate from the source material. It remains to be seen whether the Commonwealth means to help or harm the core group of characters. But viewers can look forward to witnessing how it will all play out in six bonus episodes of The Walking Dead Season 10, coming soon to AMC.
