‘Welcome to Plathville’: Are Ethan and Olivia Plath Still Separated? She Says They’re In ‘A Much Better Place’

Are Ethan and Olivia Plath headed for divorce? The Welcome to Plathville couple has been going through a tough time. Their relationship drama has been front and center in the current season of the Plath family’s TLC reality show. Olivia has even moved out of the home she shares with Ethan, and he has put the house on the market. So, is the couple headed for splitsville? While things don’t look good for the pair, some comments from Ethan and Olivia suggest they were eventually able to patch things up. 

Ethan and Olivia’s relationship frays in ‘Welcome to Plathville’ Season 3  

In the third season of Welcome to Plathville, the tensions in Ethan and Olivia’s marriage have finally boiled over. She’s had it with his conservative, controlling parents, Kim and Barry Plath, and is over small-town life in Cairo, Georgia. Ethan, meanwhile, didn’t seem ready to leave his hometown behind, at least at first, especially because he was still hoping to have a relationship with his younger siblings who live with Kim and Barry. 

But Olivia has made it clear she’s no longer willing to wait for Ethan. In a recent episode of Welcome to Plathville, she told her husband that she was moving out.  Her decision to leave their shared home was about “allowing you space to grow as an individual and allowing me space to grow as an individual, with the hopes that we get back together,” she said (via YouTube).  

Olivia and Ethan decided to sell their house 

In the midst of their separation, Ethan and Olivia decided it was time to sell their home in Cairo. 

“I’m putting the house on the market because I’ve come to the place in my life where I realize that getting out of Cairo is going to be a good thing for me,” Ethan said in the show’s Oct. 5 episode, adding: “I don’t have any intentions of staying in Cairo whether things work out with Olivia and I or not.” 

Will a chance of scenery be enough to get the two back on the right track? Both acknowledge that fixing their problems will take a lot of work. In a teaser for the Oct. 12 episode of Welcome to Plathville (via Twitter), Ethan told Olivia he rated their relationship as a 1 on a scale of 1 to 10. In his opinion, the only way to move forward following their separation was through couples counseling. 

The ‘Welcome to Plathville’ couple hit ‘rock bottom’ but are doing better now 

Ethan and Olivia ultimately decided to move forward with couple counseling, the pair said in an August 2021 interview with Us Weekly. Working on their relationship in that way has helped, both said.  

“I would say we’re doing much better than some scenes that you’ll see coming up in the season for a number of reasons — definitely couples counseling, but just where we’re at in life, working through things,” Ethan said. 

Olivia said that she and her husband had to hit “rock bottom” before their relationship began to improve. 

“When we started the season, pretty much, like, everything [was] not going well at all and kind of came to a head within the first few weeks,” she said. “It also means that as uncomfortable as the first few episodes and scenes are going to be, it gets a lot better. It gets worse before it gets better. … We’re in a much better place now.”
