Wendy Williams and Kevin Hunter separated around the same time as her Lifetime documentary

When The Wendy Williams Show aired in 2008, Williams was at the top of her game. After spending over a decade as a radio DJ, her notoriety earned her a weekly talk show that included segments like “hot topics” and “Ask Wendy.” The show was also executive produced by both Williams and Hunter. The couple got married in 1997 and had their son, Kevin Hunter, Jr before the show happened.

In addition to working on the show, Hunter was also Williams’ manager. On Wendy, the host often gushed about her marriage and the family they started together. However, rumors began to swirl in 2019 that Hunter was having an affair with a woman named Sharina Hudson. Soon after the reports came out, Williams filed for divorce from her husband in April 2019. The host later shared that she wanted to leave the marriage after Hunter had a daughter with Hudson.

Why Wendy Williams regrets crying over Kevin Hunter in her documentary

During her separation from Hunter, Williams inked a deal with Lifetime to tell her life story. In 2019, the network began filming the media personality in her New York apartment. Within the film’s first scene, Williams’ fans saw her vulnerability as she wept in her living room. The host later explained that her divorce was an overwhelming experience.

In May 2021, Williams shared with The Cut that she regrets crying on camera. Although the documentary occurred during a tumultuous time in her life, the Masked Singer alum said she wishes she didn’t reveal that side of herself on national television.

“[The process] began about two years ago,” Williams said. “And so that’s why when it opens, and you just see me crying — If I could do the documentary again, that’s not how I’d begin, because that’s not who I am. But I wanted people to understand the process of getting through it.”

Is Wendy dating anyone in 2021?

Although she wouldn’t want to cry in front of the world again, Williams is proud of her documentary and biopic. In Wendy Williams: The Movie, the Daytime Emmy nominee shared the highs and lows of her career and life. Actors Ciera Payton and Morocco Omari played the daytime talk show host and her ex-husband.
