Chris Martin thinks BTS’ music is unique

BTS’ music falls under K-pop, pop, hip-hop, and R&B. The group has had multiple songs reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, including “My Universe,” and several of the band’s albums have topped the Billboard 200 chart.

Coldplay is a British rock band, and in Coldplay X BTS Inside ‘My Universe’ Documentary, Martin praised the uniqueness of BTS’ music.

“I like a lot of BTS’ music, because first it has incredible production, and often very unusual structures and different melodies to the ones I hear,” Martin said. “You know, a song like ‘MIC Drop.’ It’s not something we could ever do. So, I admire it because it’s a different skill.”

Chris Martin also likes the message of BTS’ music

As a song, “My Universe” works to bring people together through music. In Coldplay X BTS Inside ‘My Universe’ Documentary, Martin shared that BTS being a popular music group makes him feel “hopeful.”

“I think it’s very special to me that the most popular artist in the world speaks Korean and is like a group of brothers not from the West,” Martin said in the documentary. “And it just feels very hopeful to me in terms of thinking of the world as one family.”

To record “My Universe,” Martin flew to South Korea to meet Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook in person. The artists then worked on recording the song together. In the documentary, Martin shared that getting to know the members of BTS adds something special to their music.

“Then of course, when you see who they are as people and their songs. It’s really a message of togetherness and finding, being yourself. All the stuff I agree with,” he said.

‘My Universe’ is about ‘the power of love’

In Coldplay X BTS Inside ‘My Universe’ Documentary, Martin gave his view of the message of “My Universe.” According to the Coldplay singer, the single showcases “the power of love.”

“Well, the song is about how the power of love transcends all things, borders, and rules, and genders, and race, and every sexuality,” Martin said. “If you look at people right now who are divided by a border or can’t be together, that’s what this song is about. About how nothing can really stop people loving each other.”

“My Universe” will also be released on Coldplay’s upcoming album Music of the Spheres.
