Basketball Wives fans have seen many cast members come and go. One of the most notable to participate on the show for just one season is DJ Duffey. The DJ for rapper French Montana fought tirelessly with Tami Roman during her time on the show. Despite such, it’s another former co-star of Duffey’s that she regrets feuding with.

DJ Duffey on ‘Basketball Wives’ LA season 5

Duffey joined the cast in season 5 and was introduced as a close friend of Brandi Maxiell. The two women referred to each other as “sisters,” which caused problems between Maxiell and her longtime BFF Malaysia Pargo.

Despite her close relationship with Maxiell, she was not welcomed by the cast. They found Duffey to be annoying and intrusive. She was initially forming a friendship with Tami Roman and Roman asked the DJ if she’d help with her daughter’s rap career. Things between Duffey and Roman went south when Roman accused Duffey of being lackadaisical on her daughter’s music project.

Roman and Duffey nearly came to blows while on a cast trip to Portugal. Subsequently, Duffey was sent home from the trip early, causing confusion as to why she was selected to leave as she did not physically go after Roman.

By the season 5 reunion, Shaunie O’Neal made it clear that she did not see fit for Duffey to return. Duffey cited the women’s need for drama and conflict as to why they did not take to her.

DJ Duffey regrets her beef with Angel Love during ‘Basketball Wives’

Ironically, Duffey does not regret her beef with Roman. She told The Jasmine Brand in a recent interview that she wishes things between her and Love went better during their inaugural season. The two bickered over Duffey’s criticism of Love working as a music video model.

“The one thing I regret is the argument I got in with Angel Love, we were eating and I was like, “Maybe if you wasn’t doing music videos your man would put a ring on your finger,” Duffey recalls. “First of all, I’m so pro-women and I’m so pro “do what you want and be sexy and live your life” – I don’t judge and I have friends from all walks of life.”

Duffey explains the producers were not satisfied with the show and were demanding more drama between the women so she opted to turn things up. “We had did the scene and producers came in and said, ‘Y’all aren’t giving enough, this is not money.”

Being new to the show and her desire to save her spot caused her to do things she says she wouldn’t normally do. “I let the producers put a battery in me and make me say that nasty stuff to her and I didn’t really mean it.” Duffey says she apologized to Love later and explained that her behavior was a means to make the show interesting.

DJ Duffey is not interested in returning to ‘Basketball Wives’ unless they begin a franchise in her hometown

Duffey has no plans of returning to the VH1 reality series. She now lives in Dallas full-time and is in the process of building her dream home, which she says is one mile from her parents’ home. Duffley is also in a loving relationship and recently welcomed her second child, a daughter.

She is open to participating in the series if she’s cast on the rumored Dallas franchise. In October 2019, it was reported that casting for Dallas began. O’Neal also now lives in Texas full-time, which be documented on the upcoming ninth season.
