The members of BTS were nominated for a Grammy Award

Before they were even nominated for a Grammy Award, the members of BTS had already become the first Korean act to present at the Grammy Awards and the first Korean act to ever perform at the awards show.

At the 2021 Grammy Awards, the septet was nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance along with J Balvin, Dua Lipa, Bad Bunny, and Tainy for “UN DIA (ONE DAY),” Justin Bieber and Quavo with “Intentions,” Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande with “Rain On Me,” and Taylor Swift and Bon Iver for “exile.”

BTS lost the award to Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande’s song “Rain on Me.” Despite the big names in the category, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance was not shown during the main televised ceremony.

Instead, the award was announced during a livestream called the Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony. Even though BTS did not win the award for “Dynamite” and their nominated category was not shown during the awards show, their performance was highly anticipated and saved until the end of the ceremony.

Eric Nam appreciates BTS’ work ethic

Nam first began K-Pop Daebak w/ Eric Nam in 2019. In the 104th episode of the podcast, Nam discussed BTS’ Grammy nomination.

“Now we gotta talk about something really important, The Grammys. OK,” Nam said to begin the segment on BTS. “A lot of feelings there. I think you guys know what I’m talking about. And I don’t know what to say.”

He continued, “I don’t know what to say. Obviously, there are things that happened and I love that people take it in stride. But, you know, I feel like everybody was rooting for it.”

Even though he was disappointed the Korean band lost, Nam shared that he appreciated the members of BTS did not dwell on the loss and stayed humble.

“We were all hoping for it, didn’t work out… I think I was seeing all over the internet the guys being like ‘Well, time to get back to work,'” Nam said. “And that’s what I love about them. They’re humble, they’re hardworking, and they’re just going to keep doing their thing.”

He added, “Hopefully next year’s the year.”

BTS held a VLIVE after the Grammy Awards

After the Grammy Awards aired on March 14, BTS posted a 17-minute long livestream on VLIVE. In the livestream, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook shared their thoughts about the experience.

“Honestly, I would be lying if I say I am not disappointed at all,” J-Hope said according to a fan translation. “Anyways, I feel disappointed because I know that our fans are disappointed.”

Like Nam, the members of BTS also shared their hopes that they would be nominated again in the future.
