Disney’s live-action remakes have mostly been successful. Beauty and the Beast was one of the earlier remakes, and it was popular among Disney’s diehard fans. The movie had an all-star cast, including the likes of Harry Potter’s Emma Watson. There was some unexpected controversy surrounding the film. Some anti-gay groups protested to the apparent sparks between Gaston and LeFou, played by Luke Evans and Josh Gad. There doesn’t seem to be any more flirting between these two in the live-action movie than exists in the cartoon, but the controversy seems to have served a purpose. It brought light to LeFou and Gaston, and now the two characters may even get their own show

Luke Evans is much more than a Disney villain

Evans played the swashbuckling villain Gaston in Beauty and the Beast, but he’s much more than just a Disney villain. Evans, who happens to be gay himself, has a long list of acting credits. According to IMDb, he has been in the acting game since at least 2003. He started out as a singer, which made him a perfect candidate for a Disney movie. Born in Wales, Evans moved to London to study at the London Studio Center.

It seemed like during his time at the center he set his sights on acting instead of singing because he immediately jumped into the movie biz as soon as he graduated. Some of Evans’ more notable roles include a part in The Hobbit series as well as Robin Hood. Although the majority of his work has been in movies, he’s also done a few shows. Evans had a role in The Great Train Robbery and The AlienistHis most recent TV role premiered just this year. He plays DCS Steve Wilkins in The Pembrokeshire Murders.

Disney is giving Luke Evans his own show

Obviously, Evans is no stranger to the small-screen. Still, his own show as Gaston for Disney would be a serious notch in his belt. After all, Disney has proved itself a hit-maker when it comes to shows spun off of movies. The Mandalorian was Disney’s first attempt at a TV show specifically intended for their streaming service. After it became a smash hit, Disney followed up with WandaVision, another TV series based on a major movie franchise. The company has subsequently green-lit more series, some based on the Star Wars universe, and others based on their other intellectual property.

The new Beauty and the Beast show is one of those new shows. Reports stated that the new LeFou and Gaston prequel would premiere sometime in Winter 2020. However, it seems like the COVID-19 pandemic may have slowed down production. As of now there is no firm release date for the Beauty and the Beast series that will feature Evans and Gad revising their roles as Gaston and LeFou.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Evans has a net worth of $6 million. However, this information may be a bit dated. The site doesn’t list his work on the Beauty and the Beast live-action remake as contributing to his net worth. The film premiered in 2017, and Evans has done a lot since then. The last role CelebrityNetWorth.com has listed for Evans is Dracula Untold, which came out in 2014.

It’s likely that Evans has a much higher net worth today than the site gives him credit for. Reliable information on net worth is hard to come by, but fans can be sure that Evans is worth at least #6 million, if not more.
