Reynolds and Lively met filming the critically condemned Green Lantern film. While the spark may have been missing from the cinematic spectacle, it was present between the cast members. And despite the 26% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s unlikely that either of them regrets filming this disaster. Green Lantern would go on to become the beginning of a long-gestating love story.
Though they played love interests in the film, they were both committed to others during the filming of the 2011 movie. Reynolds was still married to Black Widow actress, Scarlett Johansson, and Lively was in a relationship with her Gossip Girl costar Penn Badgley. Remaining respectful, the two became close friends, and when their respective relationships eventually fell through, they went on a date together — a double date with other people, as Elite Daily notes.
According to Elite Daily, Reynolds explained once that the double date was awkward because he and Lively clearly had chemistry, with “fireworks coming across.” Yet they were not on a date with one another.
Lively and Reynolds remained friends for quite some time before marrying in 2012. And, as the saying goes, a husband and wife should always be best friends, which may be why their relationship works so well. Yet Reynolds has had a bit more time to mature and a few more relationships than Lively. So just how much older is he?

Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds is 43 years old, and Blake Lively is 32, making the former 11 years older than the love of his life. Though a little over a decade may seem like a lot, it’s not that huge of an age gap in Hollywood, especially when you consider the fact that Reynolds doesn’t look a day over 30.
Reynolds and Lively prove to fans that age is just a number when it comes to romance. Together, they have three daughters: Inez, James, and another who was born in 2019. Inez is 3 years old and James is 5, and they are completely adorable (just like mom and dad).
Who knows what’s in store for these lovebirds next? Maybe they will pull an Emily Blunt and John Krasinski down the line and co-star in a movie once again.
