‘When Calls the Heart’: Is Nathan Finally Ready to Make His Move for Elizabeth?

A preview for the April 19 episode of 'When Calls the Heart' hints that one of Elizabeth Thornton’s (Erin Krakow) suitors might finally be making a big play for her heart.

Has Elizabeth fallen for Lucas?

This season of When Calls the Heart has been all about the love triangle between Elizabeth, Nathan (Kevin McGarry), and Lucas (Chris McNally). In a recent episode, Lucas made a bold move by asking Elizabeth to go with him to a Virginia Woolf reading in Union City. The two spent the night at a hotel (in separate rooms, of course) and had a heart-to-heart conversation over dinner, where the saloon owner said that he’d be willing to wait as long as it takes to win the heart of his perfect woman.

Lucas’s confession clearly had an impact on Elizabeth. And Nathan couldn’t help but notice that the two were growing closer. His moody wood-chopping and hurt looks conveyed how he felt. Then, in last week’s episode, “Into the Woods,” he had a tense exchange with Elizabeth after he had to help rescue her and her students when they were stuck in the wood during a windstorm. But was he really angry with her or was he more scared about the possibility of losing the woman he loves?

Elizabeth and Nathan have an interesting conversation in ‘When Calls the Heart’ Season 7, Episode 9 preview

Things were still tense between Elizabeth and Nathan at the end of “Into the Woods.” And with Lee Coulter’s (Kavan Smith) fate up in the air after his accident, they likely are both thinking about what will happen to their Hope Valley friend and neighbor. But a preview for the upcoming episode suggests that we’ll also see Nathan and Elizabeth’s relationship continue to evolve, with the two having a conversation about her recent trip with Lucas.

“Do you want to know how I ended up in Union City with Lucas?” Elizabeth asks Nathan in the preview.

“How?” says a frustrated Nathan.

“He asked,” she replies.

The clip then shows a surprised Elizabeth opening her front door to see Nathan on the other side.

Does that mean that Nathan finally screws up his courage and asks Elizabeth out on a date? It certainly looks like that could be the case.

Lucas does something that could annoy Elizabeth

As Nathan appears to be preparing to be more open about his feelings for the widowed schoolteacher, Lucas is continuing to try to win her heart. He secretly sends some chapters of Elizabeth’s book to his mother, who has connections in the publishing industry.

Elizabeth is clearly not happy that Lucas shared her writing without asking her permission first. But then he tells her that his mother willing to send the pages to a publisher. Perhaps the possibility of achieving her dream of publishing a book will soften Elizabeth’s response to Lucas’s move.

With just two episodes left this season, will Elizabeth finally make a choice between Nathan and Lucas? It’s hard to say, but with Nathan apparently stepping up his game, it’s going to be that much harder for her to decide.
